Is it supposed to be this easy?

I'll admit that I just started playing ToB and still have quite a bit to discover, but my first impression of this addon was how unbelievably easy it is.

I just played through SoA again so I could have a "broken in" character and a party I was used to for my first trip through ToB. Having gone through nearly every quest, I have ammassed the most ridiculous collection of weapons. I have Imoen wielding Celestial Fury, just because there was no one else to give it to. Everyone in my party is just way too strong, the fights are more of a nuisance than a challenge.

Have you had the same or similar experiences? Am I in for a major rude awakening? Opinions, please, but no spoilers.

  2. Hm. Well... You should be proud to have a good party and not a crappy one. If it isn't a challenge, maybe you should configure you're game to a bit more difficult level. That should help.

Download the harder Demogorgon. He's somewhere in the downloads on this site.

Well if you're an exceptional gamer, the game will be too easy. That's been noted enough on this site. Me however...I still found most of the game challenging. Not every fight was hard, but there were enough that I took a good beating a good bit of the time even with a very good, well equiped party. I never found anything that wasn't doable, nor did I personally die alot, even though I did have to resurrect party members quite often. I myself was challenged enough throughout the entire game, and I was satisfied with the difficulty. As shadow godess suggested, you might perhaps raise the difficulty level, though that is no guarantee of a great challange if your a great gamer.

JohnnyRTFM, you'd be surprised how tough it was if you didn't have the original Cloak of Mirroring restored.

Also, take the game difficulty up a notch. It won't be so easy then.

I've also found it pretty easy so far, despite having the new, toned down cloak of mirroring. However, the combination of a conjurer with the robe of Vecna, Amulet of Power, circlet of Netheril etc with Sarevok and 4 other staunch npcs doesnt leave much standing in the realm of beasties. Mind you; Ive heard scary things about the Demogorgon and a certain Bhaalspawn dragon. I have a feeling, JohnnyRTFM, that for you and I the challenge is yet to come.

Thanks for the prompt replies. I know I can always turn the game difficulty up a notch to make things tougher but what I was referring to, and I suppose I should have been a little clearer about this, was how easy it is in comparison to SoA. I found that all through SoA, the game would compensate for your level by making more/tougher monsters. This does not seem to be the case, at least not to a noticeable degree, with ToB. I can't use the toned-down Cloak of Mirroring simply because it drives my eyes nuts and gives me a headache. Let's see what happens if I lose it altogether. Anyways, I suppose all that is left is to go through to the end and decide from there.

Well, I went through it without cheats or spoilers at all. (Except one: the internet search that found me this place because I couldn't figure out the blue/purple/red oil lamps! OK, it was obvious but not to me!) Yes, I think it was easier than SoA -- though there are some very tough villains, aside from the finale: in the Drow place two battles were very challenging and fun, and one before that, after Saradush. But you are so powerful, and have so many goodies, that even dragons and lichs are pretty easy.
