[IMG] Hey guys, I recently got a new computer and didn't transfer over my iTunes from the old hard drive. So I just re-installed it (version 4.9.0.17, the one on the CD that came with my ipod photo). However, now it refuses to even RECOGNIZE my ipod. When I used to plug the ipod into my computer, I'd get the "Do Not Disconnect" logo and then iTunes would pop up with my iPod connected to it so I could change stuff up, now nothing happens at all.

Additional details are: I've never upgraded my iTunes or my iPod software so I don't think it's a compatibility issue..

I assume your USB port works. Sounds basic, but if it is a new PC, you might not have used that port for anything before.

Well.. I have an ipod supercharger and when I plug it in to the usb port it charges my ipod, so I'm guessing it works. Argh, this sucks, I've got bucketloads of new songs I can't upload :bang:

iTunes sucks big time - after my last reformat I forbade my sister from reinstalling it on my comp.
Anyway, my solution: Jump ship and go freeware.

    Yamipod
Runs directly from your ipod, so you can add and delete songs from it anywhere you want without having to install itunes on someone else comp (whether it be at school, work etc.). Takes up about 12mb, but that's hardly an issue on a hard disk player.

    CD-Ex
This is a damn good program for ripping your cd collection. Lightweight and more options and versatility that you will ever need.

My iTunes rules. It works fine, so I'm not much help for you because I have never had any problems at all and I have been using it for over a year on more than one PC with more than one iPod.

You can use Yamipod in addition to itunes, it might be useful if you have it on hand for if you want to add or share podcasts or similar with different computers - its less than a 4mb d/l, so its definitely worth it.

Thanks for the links Stu, will check them out when I've got time. In other news, I've solved the mystery of the non-recognized ipod. Apparently in y mnew computer, the USB ports in front are too slow. I plugged it into the back and now it's fine, I also upgraded to the latest itunes and ipod versions.
