Hehe. Crazy! Kill the poor dog to get back at a dead lawyer? And the court handed down curses in the 90's?

Wow ... Ragusa posted something stupid that didn't happen in the US....

[Note: not that Ragusa's post was stupid ... just the incident was another of many stupid ones that Ragusa has found and entertains us with...].

To Rags there isn't a difference between the US and Israel.

I just noticed the link isn't working. I'm sure a neocon zionist cabal must have shut down the site.

I was checking this out online. It appears that the majoirty of the outrage is from people who love dogs. I guess if they had sentenced a person to be stoned to death nobody would have minded. People and there priorities never cease to amaze me.

You’re missing the points, which are:

    1. Stoning is barbaric.
    2. The whole idea of transferring the spirit of a person who supposedly put a curse on a judge is ridiculous.
    3. Your comment above is equally ridiculous. Public outcry over stoning of humans is plentiful.

Really, Snook. This isn't about Israel; it's about extremism, ignorance, and stupid religious beliefs. I think it’s almost impossible for someone to post something that smells of being even remotely critical of Israel without you getting your back up.

    Snook,
    (a) link fixed. It apparently got garbled while posting. You have been missing two lines, so no worries.

    (b) and no, Israel and the US are not one and the same in my mind. First, while the latter pretty much unconditionally supports the former, that's not so the other way around. Second, the US is a melting pot, something that Israel's current gvt with its emphasis on Israel's exclusively Jewish identity pointedly refuses to be, lest it risks lose its Jewish Character. Also, the US don't have religious courts that deal with religion (and by extension in Israel, with nationality) and family law. If I am not mistaken, no Western country has anything like that.

What I find especially funny about this thing is the outlandish superstition involved, and the idea that the curse was a way to get back at the lawyer (surprisingly suggesting to me that a curse is seen as a valid form of verdict of the court - a court sanction for insults), and the stoning as a way to get back at his spirit after his death (at the dog's expense). A hoot. And then, geez, stoning ... this is plenty funny without any politics.

But then again, and I write that exclusively for you Snook, I am under no illusions, the Saudis or Iranians would have spared themselves the embarrassment of sentencing the dog by having the lawyer stoned for his insult right away.

The story was made up by an ultra orthodox "Behadrei Hadarim" ("In the Inner Sanctum") forum, as an effort to bring their ultra conservative views on religious jewish law into the lime light, this was based on a hypothetical 'reincarnation' and how such an act should be punished.

Jewish law (halacha) is considered a set of God-given instructions to effect spiritual, moral, religious and personal perfection. it includes codes of behavior applicable to many hypothetical circumstances, which have been developed throughout the generations in a constantly expanding collection of religious literature. An early written compilation of halacha, the Talmud, is considered authoritative.

The court and Rabbi Levin were taken aback when a complaint was filed by 'let animals live' as they had no idea what it was about.

And in the end it ended up really being about Israel. I guess that is why I "got my back up".

    Believing the smear campaign

Kind of makes you think, doesn't it?

I was shocked that they held back on the "anti-Semitic" until the last before last paragraph. Because, obviously, any newspaper that posts a ridiculous story that turns out to be a fake is anti-Semitic. But wait, no, not just THAT newspaper, the whole press is anti-Semitic.

I guess the Jewish newspaper that the story originated from is also anti-Semitic.

Oh, well, of course, like the article says further down:

I guess they'll have to deal with all those Jew-hating Jews in Israel first.

    No, seriously.

No, not really. It ended up being a story fabricated by an Israeli, and people commented on it.

Yes it does, but not in the way you likely want me to think. The article was written by a Jew, and it appears to me that the author has the same paranoia that you have – she sees anti-semitism lurking around every corner and hiding in every shadow. I’m not saying anti-semitism doesn’t exist – I’m just saying it doesn’t exist everywhere. Someone who criticises something that happens to have Jewish ties doesn’t necessarily make that person an anti-semite any more than criticising a woman makes a man a woman-hater.

Edit: I see Tal expressed the same sentiments as me.
