    Hi everyone,

After a horrid time with IWDII I'm returning to BG. I just can't seem to finish that game, dunno wether it's the lack of roleplayness or the 3rd edition rules... prolly both.

I lost my last BGII save, which is quite a bummer, since I had just exited the underdark, so I'm looking for a new challenge.

    Enter Jonas, the drunk protanagist.

If you look at Jonas, try to picture Rincewind from Pratchett's Discworld.
He doesn't want all the adventure and exitement, he fears death and above all, would just like a bowl of mashed patatos. Somehow though, he just gets dragged into all of it and always manages to get out on top, somehow...

I see Jonas as a kid who had a pleasant stay in Candlekeep, he was happy there. When Gorion told him they had to leave, he wasn't happy anymore and knew his life would end in tears. So he started drinking.

    And drinking...

    And drinking...

The rules with this character: Jonas has to be drunk pretty much all the time, as soon as I arive in a city, I head for the nearest tavern and get Jonas boozed up.

Which leads me to my first question, what effect does it have in the game anyhow? If I remember correctly your moral gets raised, but you suffer a luck penalty (-1 to all rolls)? Are there any different levels of intoxication? Can you die from alcohol poisoning?

Second, he'll have terrible stats, like 7-12, nothing higher, he's a plain ordinary guy who reeks of alcohol.

Third, spell selection. Like I said, I want a challenge. Sorcerers can be the most powerful characters you can imagine, if you pick the right spells. You can see where this is going... I want your suggestions of spells you never truly use.
Ofcourse, I still want to finish this game, so don't go off suggesting taking Sleep or something...
Since he'll be too drunk to walk in a straight line, let alone aim in a straight line, he'd probably have a lot of area effect spells. Web, skull traps, slow, you get my point. But (almost) no direct target spells. This choice is hard, since breach and spell thrust are important spells... might have to make an exception...

    Ideas:
Luck - somehow, he just gets dragged into all of this, isn't he lucky?
Blurr - he won't see anything straight anyway, he might as well project it.
Stinking Cloud - ever had a Kebab and beer fart? Jonas has, 4 times a day...
Improved invisibility - well... if you're a coward, why not...
Spook - ever had a drunk guy walk up to you in the bar, trying to chat you up? Pretty scary huh...

I'm playing the game without difficulty enhancing mods, just fixpacks, banterpacks, EOUs and Amber. I haven't really tried her yet, but I'm not sure Jonas'd be the right person to romance her...
Have you guys got any other suggestions for mods? I've been thinking of adding Bruce, the cockney barfighter, who seems to fit in perfectly. But I'm afraid he won't be very interesting, seeing he's a one day npc.
    Anyone tried him?

If you got any other suggestions, please, add them!

    Thanks :)

Heh.Interesting character. Why didn't I think that before? Maybe I could try this too. Only spell I can think would be the better version of Stinking Cloud, the mighty Cloudkill if that sorcerer likes some Turkish dish  :shake:

To be serious Wish would be another spell but if his stats are not good the results will be terrible. I don't know if luck has an effect on that.

Jan Jansen could be a good friend for him.

Friends - drinking increases your charm right?
Teleport field - make those enemy melee fighters look drunk.
Grease and Slow - similar movement inhibition.
Protection from Acid - ok maybe beer isn't all that acidic...
Shadow Door - quick escape ;) Dimension door would be more appropriate, but alas.
You can justify animate dead since Death follows Rincewind around.
Maybe a demon summon - to show he can't control his own spells.
Finger of Death - Rincewind's big fancy attempt at a powerful spell, and it does nothing! Usually... :hahaerr:

    Cool ideas!

Observe Jonas, see how he sulks about the streets of Athkatla. He broke down as soon as he escaped Irenicus' dungeon, he was in another city, oh the horror. Why can't he just have a quiet evening in front of the fire.
See how he rushed to the nearest tavern to drown his sorrows. Hear the heated debate with Minsc and Jaheira. Observe in shock how they left him on his own, alone in this unknown city. Be amazed at how he doesn't care.

How will this Bhaalspawn manage to free his sister and save the world from a lunatic wizard? Impossible you say, probably...

    Jonas
    Str - 9
    Dex - 11
    Con - 7
    Int - 12
    Wis - 6
    Char - 12

    Proficiencies:
Darts (the number one bar sport!)
    Daggers (well... steakknives...)

    Spells:
    Spook
    Grease
    Friends
    Larloch's Minor Drain
    Chromatic Orb
(No Magic Missile, I'm going to fail miserably...)
    Mirror Image
    Luck
    Stinking Cloud
    Glitterdust (discoparty trick!)
    Skull Trap
    Spell Thrust
    Slow
    Improved Invisibility
Emotion (yeah, he can get people down)

So far, no magic missile and no stoneskin, this asks for new tactics!

Might consider Greater Maliasion, consider it Jonas sharing a drink with the opponent. I mean, if he is going to have a penalty to saving throws why not share the wealth? :p

Cool! I like your concept! Go for it!

If nothing else, I'm finding the story behind Jonas' actions intriguing. Keep a journal and post it in the creative writing forum. :thumb:

    Thanks for the interest!

Problem is, I don't have a lot of time to play, let alone write about my adventures.

I'm swamped in college stuff right now, but when I get back to this, I'll see if I can write a piece.

The playthrough has been fun this far though, I'm trying a lot of different tactics, seeing as I have very little direct damage on my sorc, it's like playing BG1 with Xan all over again :D .
