[IMG] I've recently been playing old RTS games as C&C:Yuri's Revenge, Starcraft, Warcraft 2-3:FT, and some other shooting games such as CS, Quake, and other stuff. The game I'm having problems with is Battle Realms. The game starts out fine, but as the game progresses, my friend is forcedly dropped out of the game, with the message "sync error: <playername> dropped". The thing is, I don't know much about LAN  ... although I enjoy having LAN parties most of the time

Is there something I can do to correct it?

I'm using a Pentium D 820 (2.8 GHz) Dual Core CPU with Windows XP sp. 2

The other one is a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz CPU with Windows 2000 sp. 4

Both are connected via an RJ-45 cable (if it helps)

    TiA :D

Are you using a hub/switch of simply connected Ethernet card to Ethernet card? If you've plugged them directly, you'll need a crossover RJ-45, otherwise it will not work.

They're directly connected... Ethernet card to Ethernet card. I think that's what I'm using... I suppose. How do you know which cable is which anyway?

All other games seem to work fine but Battle Realms... I miss that game :(

The thing is that it apparently works for a while, but eventually something goes wrong.

I can only guess there's some problem with the ethernet cards or cable, or the game, and given that you seem to say other games work just fine with this setup, I'd say it's a problem with Battle Realms itself.

Yeah, that's the thing. Every other game works fine. We even played IWD2 in multiplayer mode for quite some time before I realized I wanted to go back to earlier RTS games. I won't give up though, I'll keep tinkering 'till there's nothing left for me to tinker.

I'll just check back to see if someone here had a similar problem and was able to fix it.

    Thanks guys

The latest networkcards are able to autodetect the nodes on the other end, so no crossover cable is needed.
Besides, if that even was the problem, his friend wouldn't be able to join the game at all.

I think the problem lies with the game, as it works for all the others non?

Is the game patched up to the latest version? If not, update it.

I don't even know what version I'm playing. I wasn't the one who installed the game and I can't find the version when I play with it. It was an old CD perhaps. I'm not certain if it's patched or not. Well, there's no patch log or something. You get that when you patch something right?

I'll try patching it and see if it fixes everything... that is if I find the right patch...

Check whether the game has special settings for LAN connection, like connection speed, refreshing rate, disconnect if ping reaches X time, or similar. If so, ensure that you both have the same settings.

It's kind of weird... it actually took me 3 uninstalls and reinstalls to fix it. I don't know what happened, but after the third, the game actually ran smoothly and we were able to finish our games together.

    Really weird... thanks anyway y'all!
