I am fascianted by this. Would this have been possible without NATO support? I wonder where Quadaffi (sic) will end up or will he be killed?

The rebels say they would prefer to take him alive. Perhaps this was genuine, or perhaps it was like the SEALs when they stormed OBL's compound, who said they would have taken him alive, "if possible", when I'm of the belief they went in shooting to kill. Not that I had a problem with the outcome there, nor would I have a problem if the same happens to Quadaffi (or however we decide to spell his name today).

Well, considering how things were going for them at the time NATO intervened, I'd say "no." Then again, as far as I can tell the push towards Tripoli is mostly coming from rebels from the southwest, not the ones in the east.

As for Qaddafi's fate, I can't say I really care for it. I imagine he may be able to escape if he wants and probably has a (un)fair amount of western currencies, gold and the like stashed somewhere for a rainy day. If he doesn't, I imagine he'll be captured or killed - probably killed unless he makes it really easy on the guys who go for him.

I'd say there's a big chance that whoever winds up taking over the country will be even worse than Gaddafi. (With a much larger probability that no one will take it over at all, leading to perpetual factional strife.)
There are so many tribal factions in play, none will submit to another as the ruler.
And the western-powers bargain won't pay off.

People will see that in the end this Arab Spring, is actually the Arab Winter.

Eh, I imagine some form of government will follow, although without an obvious strongman the tribes will likely be more powerful than now. Whether it's worse than Qaddafi I can't say, although I doubt it will be as good as we hope.

I just read the Son of the Colonel, the one the Rebels claimed to have captured, showed up on a party in Tripolis to rally for good' ol dad.

And with one gig he made it obvious, that he was never a prisoner and that the rebels were simply lying the whole time. Earlier they claimed they were within reach´of the Colonel.

    Heh, funny twist.

But on a more serious note, I constantly surprised why the world believes everything the rebels claim without any hesitation.
Must be because the word 'Rebel' carries a romantic notion since star-wars ;)
