London Rioting

I was just about to make thread about this. Is there a reason for the riots? The news here just shows burning buildings and cars, but nobody seems to know why? My theory is that it involves Pippa vs. Kate.

 

It's just an excuse for chav idiots to blag a free radio alarm clock from Curry's and smash a few places up. The rioting was happening in broad bloody daylight yesterday, madness.

Time to bring out the rubber bullets and tear gas and clean this crap up. All the media coverage is just encouraging it.

By the way, it's spread to other areas of country as well, not just London.

 

It's interesting how to close to the edge people generally are with this stuff. (It happens often enough in the US too.) Power outage? Loot and riot! I bet if you asked most of those people why the were looting and rioting, they wouldn't be too sure.

 

Well so far...

The initial tinder was the shooting of Mark Duggan (I think that's his name) who had a firearm and was killed during a drug bust. A policeman was also injured.

A protest outside the police station was held to get justice for the family and friends of Mark as he wasn't a violent or aggressive man... he just happened to have a gun on him and be into some 'bad stuff' as they described.

Police cars turned up at the police station... because, y'know. Policemen work there and that's where the police cars are parked up. This incited violence in the peaceful protesters.

Then a bunch of other guys went "Well, lookie here, they're pissed off and destroying stuff, let's do the same."

Reasons so far have ranged from "I'm unemployed and the government won't help me" to "I'm sticking it to the man." to "Lotting for great justice!"

Foreign news sites have been blaming minorities for the disturbance. In truth I think it's a case of 'natives' blaming everyone else for the mess on their doorstep.

Southampton Job Centre has already been attacked, meaning those who do rely on benefits and the other services they provide have been cut short. The attacks and riots on police have halted the Mark Duggan investigation meaning the family and friends won't get their justice and overall it's just a bunch of crap.

Friends the opposite side of Southampton have had trouble stirring up today so will be interesting if it reaches our end of the city.

Those involved should be ashamed.

 

It's just the lack of care people have sometimes that gets me.

I guess it's mob mentality. I get the whole thing with the police shooting but for that to spread to so many cities just doesn't make sense. Hooliganism gone wild?

 

I just hope it reaches my town soon. There's a few Xbox games that I'd rather like, but I'm not fussed enough to pay for them.

 

They way it seemlessly enters into the daily routines of what I assume are otherwise normal people is perplexing to me. Imagine some random person's daily log going something like this:

"Got up at 6:30, kids had breakfast and took them off to school, then almost forgot to keep an app with my gyno but remembered last minute. After that Ted met me for lunch downtown (I had the corned beef on rye - yum! - my fave! ), but when we were leaving we saw the riots so broke into the shop at 14th and Woodbine for a nice lamp I've had my eye on. On the way out a man tried to stop us, so while Ted destracted him I bashed him over the head from behind with the lamp (had to go back in for another one, damn him), and then we both kicked his teeth in while he was on the ground. Luckily was wearing my heels so also got him with a nice stomp that I think punctured his kidney. After that saw group overturning police car nearby so we assisted before leaving but had to take the back way due to road closures. On the way home now, but have to remember that the kids go to Chuckie Cheese's tonight for little Jimmy's b-day, so won't be able to call mum until later. Good day! - more of the same tomorrow hopefully."

 

It's a nightmare. I can't imagine ever thinking it would be an OK thing to go and torch a car and smash up a shop, no matter how poor or angry I was.

 

I think one of the laughable factors is the number of 14-20 year olds rioting over the unemployment situation.

I'm sorry but that's just ridiculous.

 

An 11 year old was arrested for looting. I'm sure their political reason for it will carry great weight...

The reasons for this madness left the building a few days ago.

 

It seems almost unbelievable how fast this is spreading. So some guy is killed, his family and a few other people go to the police station to ask wth happened/protest, and in no time there are mass riots and burned buildings?

This is starting to sound like the Paris riots of 2005. I hope it doesn't get that bad - or worse.

 

We have our first, real-life "28 Days Later" on our hands...

Barmy is going to wake up a month from now in a hospital with no one around and no memory of what happened. The streets will be silent and full of empty cars and litter. Then, "they" will start coming from the shadows.... scary things, very pale-skinned from years of being indoors. Barmy will be surrounded.... by..... the SP cast! It willl probably have him screaming and running for his life! Especially if Splunge or T2 are in the lot.

The f...? This takes "sticking it to the Man" to a whole new level. An extremely absurd level, at that.

Don't these girls have boyfriends, parties, and the occasional homework to take care of? Good grief, I doubt booze has gotten so expensive in the UK that you'd need to loot stores to get some wine!

 

This stuff is out of control. Did LA's population pickup and move to London all of the sudden?
