[IMG] I'm creating a Monk as a backup-character and seeing the environments of the world he will be walking in, he might need a nice magical item that protects him from cold weather and heat.
I think it would just be silly to let him walk around in snowy mountains, only wearing his Monk's Outfit. And I don't want him to wear heavy robes etc.

So, I was thinking of a Monk's Outfit with permanent Endure Elements. But what would the thing cost? The rules (3.5) on creating items leave me puzzled, so I ask for advice.

    Some things I thought:
According to the DMG magical clothing is a Wondrous Item.
To create a wonderous item, you must have an Item (the Outfit, costing 5gp) and a spell (Endure Elements).
IIRC, the Base Price for a 'Use-Activated or Continuous' Spell Effect = Spell Level x Caster Level x 2000.
Endure Elements (level 1 spell) normally lasts 24 hours and so the costs can be the half.
    So this makes 1 x 1 x 2000 x 0.5 = 1000.

    1000 (Spell costs) + 5 (the outfit self) = 1005 gp.

This is imo a silly amount of gold, but would it cost about this much? I have the idea it would be less expensive, it doesn't give me protection from cold or fire etc. I just don't need to make a fortitude save because of warm or cold weather.

And think of a nice name for this item. :)

2000 is probably more appropriate, since the effect would be continuous and therefore can't be dispelled. The extra 5 gp is trivial, but it seems to be the rule that you don't have to add the cost of the material itself in unless it's a weapon or armor.

    Name: Traveler's shield?

[Aside: Oh look, endure elements has been changed for the new edition. Never noticed that.]

i'd put something like that around a 1000 GP. maybe a bit more. It's not like it's more than a roleplaying item, really.

hmm, for a name, i like traveler's shield...but ...ehr....how 'bout *thinks* how 'bout what a friend o' mine proposed about another cloak? it's kinda universal:

'cloak of Mysterious and Not Yet Discovered Unbelievable Might and Power; or CoMaNYDUMaP as I use to call it' -actual quote
