I'm having a very peculiar problem on my laptop.

Since the last 3-4 days, I'm having a lot of trouble with running games on my system.

As long as its just Winamp, Word, Photoshop...even CPU intensive applications like encoding video and whatnot...the laptop works fine.

However, the instant I load any game or other visual-intensive app, my computer completely freezes up! This includes Baldurs Gate 2, Condition Zero, Ultimate Spiderman, Icewind Dale II etc.

    My rig is as follows:
    P4 3.2 GHz
1 GB RAM (not sure about the DDR speed and all)
    100 GB HDD
ATi Radeon 9800 with 256 MB VRAM
Windows XP Home with SP 2

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Or what is causing the problem?
