Here are a few more comments by J.E. Sawyer (Designer), including some news about the upcoming patch.

Patch ETA: Darren asked me to let you all know that it will probably be done near the end of the month.

BG2: Dark Alliance: Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is a PS2 action D&D game being developed by Snowblind Studios, published by BIS. ... It's a console RPG. As we all know, that's a loaded term for a lot of people. Console RPGs are usually linear, action-oriented, and seem more like adventure games to our PC RPG backgrounds.

It's using a lot of D&D rules. No game -- and I mean *no* game -- ever gets all of the "roolz" into the game exactly as written. Even the Gold Box games occasionally had to fudge things. Exactly how "D&Dish" BG :DA will be remains to be seen.

Static Charge Question: Static Charge is potentially one of the most devastating spells in the game. When you cast it, if there is an enemy in range, it picks one and calls down a bolt of lightning on it. If there is no enemy in range, the message, "Static Charge dissipates harmlessly." should appear and a small electical animation should play on the caster. Every ten rounds after that, Static Charge will randomly strike an enemy in range. If there is no enemy in range at the time, the message and animation listed above will appear again.

This spell is great when it's cast in a cycle of "buff" spells before a large battle. When I played through again recently, I had my druid cast it three times before the battle with Yxunomei. When all hope seemed lost, Static Charges started killing the yuan-ti. It's also good to blow your Static Charges before resting. If monsters interrupt your sleep, they'll get a gut full of electricity at the beginning of the battle.
