Multiplayer, machine configs?

    This is continuing the thread from "who plays what where?" but I wanted to open the question up wider?

    I'm hooked on the Multiplayer game but my computer performance is inadequate for it and I'm trying to identify the problem. So I wanted to ask other players about their internet connection speeds and results.

    I'm playing on a P4 2.2Ghz, 364 MB, Ge force 440MX, the game speed is OK, smoothish. Loading up is slow. It's slow on the single player game and it's slow on multiplayer. I'm trying to work out if multiplayer slowness is due to the internet conection or the machine.

    We have a 128MB cable internet connection.

    The problem comes when I play multiplayer and change areas. If I'm playing in a group, everyone, and I mean everyone, enters the new area waaaaaaaaay ahead of me. Result, I'm either dropped from the group or just miss the fight altogether. Frustrating.

    General question for any multiplayer gamers out there who care to answer, what's the configuration of your machine and internet connection and what's the performance like? Is 128 MB per second too slow?

    [​IMG] Okay first you have a typo in your posting. You could not be connecting at 128mb per sec, as first that speed of internet connection is not offered. The closest one is an OC3 line which runs at 155mb per sec, and costs $50,000 + fibre charges each month. If you are running on ones of those, you would have no lag at all, since 0C3 are used as part of backbone of the internet.

    Secondly it is impossible to be connecting at 128mbs per sec as as a normal network cards limit is 100mb per sec, unless you are using the new 10/100 giga cards.

    So what it comes down to is that you misread your connection speed.

    Now onto the subject at hand, you said that your online play is slow. This could be caused from anything like a slow hard-drive, using sdram, or as I believe in your case, running on dial-up.

    My computer is an amd 1.5ghz, 512 ram, geforce4-4400. Which odly never has problems running nwn.
