My half-orc seems to have lost his glasses...

I have a problem with my maincharacter, a fighter/thief half-orc.

His vision is VERY limited;
Whenever I move around a place where I have not been before, he hardly discovers any new area. I have to go VERY close to the black before it a tiny bit of it disappears, and he can proceed a single step more.
Also, when I am in an area where I have been before, the same problem occurs with the "fog of war". Since he's supposed to be my scout, and also to start combats with a neat lil' backstab, this is quite annoying.

I've played halfway through the game with a half-orc bezerker once before, and I am quite sure I did not have this kind of problems with him, so I don't think it has anything to do with the race.

I've tried removing all his equipment, that did not help.

I might be missing the obvious here - does anyone know why this is happening, and what (if anything) can be done?

Oh, and btw ... I'm am not using any exterior programs whatsoever, but I have enabled "debug mode" in order to be able to [ctrl]+[j] across Waukeens Promenade.

We, belive its a kind of "Bug" but we're not sure. I appears with no known factors!

I read something about it, but dammit i cant remember where...

But you should handle this like the Blinding Spell. The effect are the same. Try some Cleric or Magic counter on it. On your Main Char.
I mean Bann Magic or some heal Spells. This should clean up your Glasses

I don't think the Blind spell has anything to do with it. I also don't think that you can cast a spell on your character to fix it.

It sounds like a bug. Have you installed the patch?

 

Yep; patch is installed.

I am quite sure now curse or the like have been cast on him; I have tried casting minor restoration on him with no effect ...
Can try to go to a temple, and see if any of the spells they can use are not "ghosted", and then see if they can do anything that works.

But, well ... yeah it most of all looks like a bug. Quite a annoying one as well... apart from the fact that he is useless as a scout, and it takes him ages to locate the victim I wish to backstab (unless I cast invisibility on one of the others to help him, or send a wizard-eye with him), combat AI works bad as well. He only attacks things withing range, and since his range is VERY limited, he usually just stands around 'till I give an order.

 

Ahh. You didn't mention the problem in combat. Is there anything visible on his portrait, or in the character profile screen to give an indication of something amiss?

 

Nothing ... there is nothing in the space where effects such as "fatigued" and "held" are usually mentioned.

 

I have the latest ToB patch (26498) installed (since I also have ToB installed ... for when I get that far).
I assumed that it would include any fixes for SoA as well, but might be wrong. Would I run into problems if I install the SoA patch ontop of anything? (could of course just try, but it takes ages to reinstall if it does go wrong...)

In any case, there was a solution mentioned there, so I'll just do that.

Update - it worked. I went to the illmater temple in waukeens, and surely enough he could cast "heal" on me, restoring the light radius.
Last time I checked in a temple, I dismissed the heal as an option, since the character was wounded and I thought it was only available for that reason.
