[IMG] Hey guys, I'm not really a big fan of opera and have 0 knowledge about it, but I've found that there are certain songs I quite like.

Sometimes in movies (i.e. The Untouchables, The Godfather, The Sum of All Fears) there are parts when they play really cool opera music, usually when someone is being killed or the master plan is occurring, heh.

My question is: can anyone give me some opera songs that fit in this rather loose category I've described? Songs like.. Nessum Dorma (as sung by Pavarotti, Carreras and Domingos)

The only one that I remember is Wagner's "Die Walkure" in Copolla's "Apocalypse now", the famous helicopters' scene.

There's one particular song in Shawshank Redemption. An Italian lady singing it, I don't know the title though. The scene was Andy playing it out for the whole prison to hear, and everyone just stood there amazed with the song.

A Clockwork Orange had several Ludwig Van Beethoven.

Empire of the Sun had some nice ones too.

Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata was featured in George Clooney's Peacemaker. I never forgot this one, there was this scene when the antagonist teaching a little girl to play the piano. And he was pointing out how the tempo could dictate the mood of the song. A little too fast and it sound happy, while playing it at the right tempo, the song felt really sad.

Overture from the William Tell opera composed by Rossini is most popular with The Lone Ranger movie, and it's been used in several other movies.

Stanley Myer's Cavatina from Deer Hunter. Although I'm not sure if this one passes as an operatic song.

Beethoven's Symphony 9 is a widely used song in movies.
