I've tried playing Awakening a couple of times, but I couldn't get very far. So far I can chalk it up to a couple of things:

    1) Early on, it seems to be filled with a lot of BG1 style fed-ex quests, during what's supposed to be an epic-level adventure of all things. As far as I've gotten, which isn't very far, it seems to get pretty trite and tired real fast.

    2) I don't find myself liking any of the NPCs either.

I get Anders is supposed to meld Wynne's abilities with Alistair's wit, but I'm just not digging it.

And then there's Nathaniel. I kept asking myself, "Why can't I have my Leliana back instead of this loser?" And the son of that Howe bastard to boot.

And the one Origins NPC they did bring back was my least favorite NPC, Oghren of all people. Aaaarrrggghhhh!

Does it get any better if I tough it out? But you can also treat this thread as an opportunity to express your own thoughts/opinions on Awakening independent of my query.

Meh, it was OK. No Origins though. Just a typical lazy cash-cow expansion. I was kind of annoyed straight away when I realised they just used Alistair in a robe to make Anders. Even the same voice actor. Purely laziness.

I agree with Barmy. Its a cash cow, nothing else. And to make the gameepic, you have enemies dropping weapons and equipment that easily surpass the stuff you got in Origins. Loads of equipment. Fights drag on of ages too. When I finished it the first time I had a battle running for well over 10 minutes. I left the game, made myself some food, and when I got back the battle was won. Mostly just fights just for the sake of fights. Can`t talk to your companions unless they have something to say to you, either. That bit carried over to DA2, I am sad to say.

The story doesn't get better until mid game (the Architect appears, you learn more about the NPCs and the Mother/broodmothers) but only barely. Awakenings is 75% munchkinism.
