[IMG] guys I need your help pretty bad, my computer's breaking down and there are very very important files in it, it started after I surfed a couple of times and there were this windows that kept popping up, now my computer is filled with programs I can't erase, there are programs like elitebar and slotchbar, sb soft, it goes on, I've tried to delete some files which I "think" are the ones responsible for such crap, but to no avail.

I'm wondering if there's a program I can download to clean my pc up off all this, or is there something I can do, eitherway your help is appreciated.

    P.S.
Even my internet explorer icon isn't working and I'm trying to email myself important files (can I mail whole folders? tried it error occurs) I've deleted so many files maybe even some I shouldn't have, I really need your help thanks! I would like to know how to get rid of windows that keeps popping up while surfing.

I agree wholeheartedly with Taza. These two programs should really help. It might still be worth having anti-virus though. Trojans and the like can still get by.

    1) Get the programs Taza suggested and UPDATE them.
    2) Un-plug your Internet cable.
    3) Backup those oh-so-important files. Your Gmail account, CD, DVD, whatever.
    3) Run the programs in safe mode or otherwise.

And if it doesn't work, take the easy way out and keep a nice funeral. If you need more advice, give me your IP address and I'll see a bit what's on your computer. :D

*sigh* Another young grasshopper who didn't take any protective measures to keep his/her computer safe from the horrors of the net.

Besides the two programs I recomend that you also get the ZoneAlarm firewall (which is free) and an anti-virus program... Avast! is quite good from what I hear.

A lot of spyware/adware re-installs itself or a clone of itself if you try and uninstall it, so if none of the above programs get your computer nice and clean, I think a reformat is in order. :rolling:

thanks guys, I've downloaded spybot and it cleaned up all except one file, named seach or explore something, it said maybe the memory's using it, anyway I can't make my explorer icon work, what's ironic is I have to use a link via one spyware file because it links to the internet to uninstall it, it's called search assistant 180 or something like that. Anyway thanks for all your help.

He, that 180 search assistant got me too; I've installed MSN 6.2 which came with an anti-pop out thingy, works fine, but at one point, suddenly I have 5 or 6 tool bars installed: shopping wizzard, SideFind, WSEMupdate, Search extender, Internet optimezer, bullseye network... oh man... How the heck they install themselves without asking me???

Good that it helped. And for the next step?

If you don't have a firewall:
    ZoneAlarm

If you don't have an antivirus:
You might use that Avast!, i personally use AntiVir.

And to use as a browser...
    Mozilla Firefox

Those three should help the recovery process a lot, especially Firefox. Don't install two firewalls or antiviruses, however.

( Note: I know, i know, some people think that Opera is better, but it ain't free. )

Those little "tool bars" can't be uninstalled... Format:c\ is my only solution.

I have a question in the same line. I have downloaded Ad-aware and spybot and spysweeper and have norton. I even managed to get rid of a virus called Backdoor.agent.B (who calls a virus like that anyway, sounds like a cheap gay porn movie)

Yet when I start up internet explorer I still get a stupid search page which doesn't go away. Worse still I can't reach hotmail microsoft and a few other sites because it automatically goes back to that search page. When I run ad-aware it regognizes it and removes it and the first time it works. Yet when I go to hotmail it immediatly returns and sticks there. Clearing out my registry and temp internet files didn't do it either. It's really annoying.

    Any tips

Man... I've had similar problems, and between Antivir and Spybot S&D and Firefox and other such things it's worked out pretty nicely... Some of the ops should put a sticky in Techno-Magic detailing these links and what they do - this happes all the time. Good luck infested ones :p
    :borg:

PS get Firefox - it's free and it pwns IE so bad there's not enough left of it to cry

[IMG] Thanks for all your replies, anyway my computer's a little better now, onlt problem is I can't get my exporer icon to wotk, and what's worse I can't seem to open "internet related files" or pics that I've downloaded, particularly ones with gif and jpg extensions, plus some web pages, do I really have to format now?

by the way even when I'm offline I think that my explorer (normal) is being recognized as a webpage or my desktop (whatever). Beacause I've downloaded avast (can't say it helped) and it keeps detecting a virus in my web folder, even when I delete the file, and my computer says that there's been an error and it asks if I want to continue running scripts eventhough I'm offline.

Like Hugo said, forget all that Internet Explorer crap and go with Mozilla, I promise you those problems will go away once you start using Mozilla Firefox. As for retrieving pics and looked at, there are 2 options I can think of:

    1. Search for all files, folders and select search hidden files as well, and search for either *.gif and *.jpeg, and if you want to retrieve the secret record of your internet history(Which includes .jpegs and .gifs) search for *.IE5.

    2. Control Panel--> Network and Internet Connections--> Internet Options--> Temp internet files-->Settings-->View Files

But seriously, ditch Internet Explorer and cleanse your computer with Spybot:

Edit: Removed the URLs, kept the mad tipz.

Rednik: Both have been said already

Dias: Try if http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ could help with the viruses.

EDIT: One should not post tired.

Mozilla did the trick somehow. I'm certainly glad using hotmail is a possibility once again. Although I kinda like Gmail.
