    When I say the original Pirates! (microprose) on the C64, I am only joking a little!
    I'll probably try the new Sid Meiers version soon, a few people on the boards have played it. Up and till now Sea dogs is the best I've played. Its reasonably fun to play although the game is short and not without a few bugs, obviously this is 2 or 3 years old now so there may be better.

    Sea Legends is fantastic. It has wonderful gameplay:
    - sea battles that actually work (with multiple ships)
    - pointful duels (when fighting against an enemy ship, you don't get to defeat the captain (who, with a small crew, takes a wound to surrender, but with a numerous crew might suffer twenty or thirty wounds with a cutlass or a long sword and still not surrender), at least not immediately - if he has other sailors, you have to get past them to get to the captain.
    - a long and rewarding plot
    - a working flag system (you can hoist up a Spanish flag, but if you don't sail with a number of galleons, you'll be suspected)
    - very nice (drawn) graphics of towns

    I recommend it to anyone.

    Pirates of the carribean is by bethdesa - allthough I'm not sure wether this is the sequel to seadogs or not. I have it for X-Box, and it looks very similar. I have'nt had time to play it yet, it's just going to have to sit on the shelf for a while.
    Interestingly I forgot to mention the original Microprose Pirates on the C64 was designed by Sid Meier before he was as well known as he is today.
    It seems that most games he has had a hand in show a great deal of creativity.
