[IMG] What's your favorite poem and/or author?
    (difficult question!)

I think I'd have to say: "So shy, shy, shy" by E. E. Cummings (can't help it: I'm a fan!)
I also love Gerard de Nerval and Du Bellay (from the Pleiade)!

The whole work of Nikos Kavadias. He was a sailor and the majority of his poems are about sea. His work has been translated in english and french but due to the extensive use of marine terminology, IMO you have to read his poems in greek in order to feel them and understand them better. Here you can find some info about him as well as and some translations of his poems.

There are so many whose work I love: Dylan Thomas, T.S. Eliot, Sylvia Plath, e.e. cummings, Walt Whitman, Christina Rossetti...

If I had to pick one, though, I think I'd choose Muriel Rukeyser. Here's the first verse from her poem "Reading Time: 1 Minute 26 Seconds":

The fear of poetry is the
fear : mystery and fury of a midnight street
of windows whose low voluptuous voice
issues, and after that there is not peace.

Ghost song by Jim Morrison, it is not quite a poem maybe (or is it) but it is my favourite.

    Shake dreams from your hair
My pretty child, my sweet one.
Choose the day and choose the sign of your day
    The day's divinity
    First thing you see.

A vast radiant beach in a cool jeweled moon
Couples naked race down by it's quiet side
And we laugh like soft, mad children
Smug in the wooly cotton brains of infancy
The music and voices are all around us.

Choose they croon the Ancient Ones
    The time has come again
    Choose now, they croon
    Beneath the moon
    Beside an ancient lake

    Enter again the sweet forest
    Enter the hot dream
    Come with us
Everything is broken up and dances.

My favourite poems and authors are "Paradise Lost" (technically a poem!) by John Milton, "The Charge of the Light Brigade" by Alfred Lord Tennyson, or "The Lay of Leithian" by JRR Tolkien.

My favorite book is my favorite poem: Beowulf.

It's an oldie but goodie :D

In one of my poetry classes in college, we discussed the poetry of Jim Morrison, Seravok. Best homework assignment I ever had: Listen to the Doors.

I haven't read to many poems but of the ones I have read I find Wilfred Owen's easily the best.
