    [IMG] I'm trying to create a character with the point buy system (28 points), but forgot how it works with racial modifications. Do you add them after you have bought all your stats, or are they added at first. Big difference here.

    You add them after you spend your points, but you can always keep in mind what the modifiers are when buying stats.

    If you know you'll be adding a +2 Dex or something, don't waste points buying a 16 when you'll bump it up from 14 with the modifier.

    [IMG] Don't you get any points back if you want to have a stat lower than 8?

    No, you do not get points back for lowering stats below 8.

    with this system do all stats start out at 8 and with the extra 28, we add to it?

    Yes, one a one-to-one basis, but stats above 14 cost extra.

    15 = 8 points
    16 = 10 points
    17 = 13 points
    18 = 16 points

    So it allows one or two good stats, but no superhumans (or superelves etc ;) ).

    Personally I feel this system is great, equal for all, so no envy, and the characters usually are really fun to play since they are well balanced.

    I dont like this way of generating stats because IMO they are too weak and would never survive with my DM anyway. I like the roll 4d6 and discard the lowest. One of my friends thought it was roll 5d6 and discard the lowest so he made a character like that and the others couldnt understand why his stats were so high :D
