    Live albums can be good ... or a cash in. Best of albums are pretty pointless, however.

    Live DVDs make far more sense than live albums.

    Live albums show the atmosphere of the concert and the best of is cash in. If I have all their albums best of is a waste of money

    A best of mostly contains one or two songs you can't get anywhere else or that are hard to find, so the true fans needs to buy this best of to get this songs, so it is a cash in...

    Live albums can be both great AND a cash-in. Accept the fact that ALL albums are a cash-in in some way, otherwise they'd give them out for free.

    Paul McCartney's Tripping the Live Fantastic album is great and shows a different side of some of his classic songs.

    Live albums clearly show atmosphere, a quality sorely lacking in many many bands latley.

    Best of album surely is a cash in, except when there are plenty of extras like a b-side extra disc.

    I kinda like "best of" albums sometimes. As for live albums, they're okay, but it really pisses me off when the band/artist does the "let the audience sing" thing. :mad:

    Live albums in general are IMO not too bad, I enjoyed the Unplugged albums that I heard when they came out some years back now.

    For me, best of albums are good to find out if you like a band or not, especially if you haven't heard a lot of their work. Not always a good indicator of an artist full range though if they do a range of styles as generally best-of tend to be hit singles and such like.

    The ONLY live album I like is Alchemy, for the rest, I found them just another way of marketing.
