Ok, so there was a poll done not too long ago that says that we are swearing (using profaaity) more these days than ever.

To that, I must steal a line from Jay Leno, and say, "that's just Bull****!" :p

Anyway, I decided to make a SP version of the poll. But in this poll, it's for what you speak, as well as what you type online. :rolling:

No I don't I just think liberal airheads get up in arms about it, and by making a fuss about it, make it more of a problem. But that's my opinion only and is not representative of anyone else

I think yeah - because swearing has lost a lot of its taboo status. We use swearwords but they are less, well, actually swear-wortthy because of the commonplace usage.

I think I swear more in real life than online, but I've been trying to cut it with some success. I really don't like the God-based ones. For monotheists, it's irreverent, for others, it's insulting.

I cuss IRL. I also use inventive swearing for 'tender ears' - nutbunnies! sugar! son of a basketball player! fudge ripple on a stick!

I don't hear people cussing more IRL, but less in fact. They sure like to push the censors online though, just to see what they can get away with. I've seen more variations of swear words (the 7) as player names in online gaming.

Well, I'm not sure I understand the second question in the poll about people swearing more online these days. Previously, there was no such thing as 'online' so there is nothing to compare to.

I probably swear quite alot in real life but I think it's mostly idiots online who swear. I don't know any people who swear online but they all swear in real life :)

Incidentally, would you count the word B****R with UGGE in the middle to be a swear word? I've had differing opinions

I almost never swear anymore. I use to love to swear during highschool and maybe even into the first semester of my freshman year (the whole rebel complex), but people at my college (when sober) don't seem to swear all that much and swearing has almost entirely dropped out of my vocabulary. Doesn't help that I've become a lingual elitist either. I only swear when I snap and completely loose control... and then I use only one of the curse words and I bet you can guess which one it is... just seems to roll of my tongue when I'm angry, like it's the focal point of all my sentences.

Well I suppose I use the word Bastard, but then I don't think of it so much as a curse word, but a cultured insult.

Don't really cuss that much even when taking into account a few emphasizing words like hell, bloody, and arses. Those even aren't from the heavier side.

I used to swear alot, now I only do it when I'm pissed off. Online, I usually keep it down, but I am pretty much the same in real life.

As a general rule, I think yes, people swear more. Should they? Eh, I don't really care... most of the time it just sounds like their trying to be cool (which always makes them sound stupid, and my respect is lowered for them).

I do say God-Damnit and Jesus Christ alot, despite the fact that I'm non-religious. I try to cut down on those, but I don't think they are swears... some religious people might get offended though.

That one's hard to answer. I'm not God and God isn't my property, so it's not my place to get offended the same way as if one used my own name like that, and I'm not enough of a freak to imagine it's done to insult on purpose, but the swearing use is hurtful. Even if someone isn't religious, God or Jesus stands for something good and shouldn't be used that way. It makes me sad to hear. It's a gross theological problem in case of a believer because God is obviously not one's own machine or genie for cursing people and things one doesn't like.

Yeah, Chev, thats why I'm trying to use it less and less... I don't want to offend while using offensive language.

    Wait...

Yes. I suspect that I have mild Coprolalia (the uncontrolled swearing) with my Tourette Syndrome. I also think that 12 years of not caring what I said that it's hard to break the habit...

    Oh you poor HarbourCaveboy.

Think waaaay back to the good ol' days...when chatrooms and message boards were first coming in to the picture. Pre 1999 I'd say would do. :rolling:
