[IMG] Would you as a player like to play a monster character? As a DM, would you allow a player to have a monster character? And by monster character I mean Kobolds, Goblins, Ogres, awakened animals. Not monster as in really, mean and evil humans.

I would vote yes to both questions. As a player, I have played a Kobold Sorceror/Ranger (3E) and a Hobgoblin Fighter/Cleric (2E). As a DM, I have had players who have played a Kobold, a Hobgoblin, and an ex-familiar cat.

Heck yeah! The way I see it, if I'm DM, my job is to help the players have fun. If that means scrapping rules, making my own rules, creating my own monsters, or letting my players play as unusual monster/races or whatever, then that's what I'd do, Granted, you'd probably have do some custom play balancing, but so what?

And as for the first question, yes, it would make for a nice change from all of those elves, dwarves, and etc. They can get old after a while.

Well, once I had a player play as a baby silver dragon and that didn't do down very well, but then, he was a munchikin.
I have no problem with it, all sentient creatures should be able to be converted into PC's

I'd allow a player to play whatever he wanted, as long as he could fit it into the ECL scale there is.

using a rather excellent ECL calculator made through study, there's a list of basicly any monsters ECL.

    http://csserver.evansville.edu/~jc84/DD3/Monster_ECL.htm

'tis a good link and guideline, if anyone are interested.

[IMG] Thanks for the link Lokken. I feel like someone else struck gold and gave me the claim. This will be an invaluable resource for my game.
