Tiger Woods. I bet he is curled up in his bathroom, on the phone with the girlfriend, offering a Million or so for her not to send any other texts, emails or phone messages to TMZ. Of course, a Million is nothing compared to the cost of a divorce for Tiger.

    Opinions?

Personally, I couldn't care less what he does in his private life and who he sees/screws. However, I understand that the public fascination is what it is and, quite frankly, he can't possbily expect to be left alone. He's maybe the most well-known athlete in the world and makes an incredible amount of money off his publicity (or should I have said "made"?) -- no one is going to give him privacy on this.

While I do not think this story is as newsworthy as it is being portrayed by the media (but I suppose that's the media/celebrity culture we live in), I cannot bring myself to feel sorry for him either. He's filthy rich, married a steaming hot Sweedish supermodel, and cheated on her, when he has a toddler and infant back home. He should be ashamed of himself.

If he cheated, he let down his wife, kids, and extended family. I lose respect for anyone who cheats.

But WTF is up with the "he let his fans down"? They have no business being "let down" by his private behaviour. If he's been caught doing 'roids or using illegal clubs or balls, then fine, he let them down because he cheapened the entertainment that they paid money to see. But his private life is not entertainment. In a perfect world, we'd all move along and focus on something else. Getting entertainment at someone elses misfortune, whether they be billionaires or a bum on skid row, is really low class.

I'm not willing to judge him at all. Imagine being in the position (pun almost intended) of having beautiful women everywhere you go throw themselves at you. Knowing that the woman sitting next to you and pressing her body against yours would go to your hotel at any moment -- and the woman is supermodel good looking. This happens in every city, on every trip, in every hotel. Women giving you notes with pictures of them nude and offers to do anything at any time -- famous women, beautiful women, all the time.

I'd be walking around with a perpetual hard-on. I think it'd be pretty damn tough not to give in every now and then.

How would you play championship level golf with a perennial hard on? Gotta interfere with the old putting stroke -- y'know what I mean?

Sure we do. We can lose respect for the man for cheating (like you said), but that makes it hard to root for him on the field, because (if this becomes as big a deal in the media as they will probably make it) that is all we will be able to think about when he is on the field.

I'm not a sports fan, but I think for some fans a lot of it is about the person, not just the talent or ability. It's far worse for music fans, like myself. For instance, I'm a huge fan of the Rolling Stones and a fan of Keith Richards, both his writing and his playing. This is a guy who snorted his dad's ashes by mistake. I mean, what am I supposed to think of this guy? Just remember, it could always be worse.

BTW, I don't believe I could ever cheat on my wife, or betray my family (at least I hope I wouldn't). I don't care who it is.

That's one reason that I try hard not to learn too much about entertainers -- when I do find out about their personal failings, I lose respect, as people said. But that said, I don't feel that the people I choose to entertain me have any responsibility to me beyond that which they have to society in general. They owe me no apologies.

Well, obviously character doesn't really matter much any longer with these guys. But I think a lot of the concern centers around endorsements, and if he should receive compensation for representing a certain coporate image to the public in a larger sense than just some guy who plays golf.

Here's the thing though - when I watch Tiger in the Masters I am not tuning in because of his ability as a husband or a father. I tune in because he is a really good golfer. I don't give a flip who he happens to be humping. (Ooohhh... alliteration)

I think there is one more thing the media is failing to comment on. And I think what I'm about to say applies not only to athletes, but politicians, and really anyone who has a lot of power.

In a certain sense I think the qualities that they possess that make them great at what they do, are simultaneously failings that can lead them to this type of behavior. These people are "the man". They are always looking for the next challenge, the next issue, the next "big thing". For these guys (and yes, it's almost always men), they are continually in this mindset. To think that it could spill over into sexual conquests as well, isn't that surprising.

Wasn’t sure if this should go in Jokey Posties or here. I decided on the latter.

The police asked Tiger's wife how many times she hit him.
    "I don't know exactly...put me down for a 5."

Phil Mickelson contacted Tiger's wife to pick up tips on how to beat Tiger.

What's the difference between a car and a golf ball?
Tiger can drive a ball 400 yards.

Ping just offered Elin an endorsement contract for her own set of drivers, to be named Elin Woods..."clubs you can beat Tiger with."

Tiger just changed his nickname but still kept it in the cat family. His new name? - Cheetah

The best I'd heard came from a black female comedian:

The black in him bought a Cadillac; the Asian in him crashed it.

I tune in because he's the best golfer as well; but now that this is out, it will be hard not to think - "Oh, he's a scumbag like most other famous people." Which is disappointing... it is nice to idealize our favorite sports stars as above human faults, so when they are brought back down to earth, it kind of sucks. To use a literary reference (ahh, pretentiousness, here I come!), it is kind of like Ambrosio's fall in Matthew Lewis's "The Monk." People considered him above fault, so when they find out he's a sex-crazed lunatic, they riot and start destroying things. While that won't literally happen here, people will certainly condemn him for being just like the rest of us (not saying we will all cheat, but everyone has their problems).
