I think this should be in here, if not I apologies...

I use messenger (Windows) to talk with my friends quite often, but recently I've had the problem of a message popping up in the conversation saying:

Your buddy has a new buddy icon please check out www...

and it gives a link to a page, that I can't recall at the mo, it advertises buddy icons.

When ever this message appears it kicks me out of messenger, and this can become very tedious and annoying. The strange thing is that my friend to whom I'm talking doesn't get the message.

Has anyone had a similar problem, recently or in the past, any advise would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.

PS. I'm not technically minded so could you avoid technical jargon...thanks :p

If it only appears when talking to one specific person then the problem is most likely with them (or their messenger). If it happens with lots of different people then it is most likely your messenger that is messed up. As to a solution for the problem, I have none. But it's best to know if it's you or them that's the problem.

It just happens with one person...or so far it has.

Perhaps Trillian would be of use as a messenger? It's compatible with MSN Messenger and the rest. I haven't ever used Windows messenger, but isn't it just MSN messenger? If you, you can just talk to your friends using another messenger program.

IIRC Windows messenger lets you chat over a LAN...and it is pure evil. Stay away from it...in fact, if you have WinXP, then use my guide to the Windows System Config Utility (located deep within the Techno-Magic forum) to disable Windows Messenger.

Now MSN Messenger is a different story...MSN Messenger is great little program! :thumb: :rolling:
