    Asus P5Q-E mobo
    C2D E7200 CPU
    2*2 GB DDR1/800 A-Data EP Vitesta
    640 GB Samsung F1
    HD 4850
SB Audigy 1 ES (from old box)
    DVD combo, Asus
    Windows Vista

Even without any overclocking, the computer sometimes simply hangs and stops responding. It just stops sending signal to the monitor and it hangs operation as well. All I see is some visual distortions or a freeze followed by a "monitor going to sleep" and then it hangs.

My friend says the new Asus mobos are bad, as is Vista (like I don't know...).

    Any suggestions?

Loose the soundcard and see what happens. I had it the first few times whit vista too and that worked for me. Ofcourse the drivers are better now. But it is worth a try

Yeah... For now, updated soundcard drivers, set sensitive BIOS settings to manual (voltage etc), let's see how it works. The first crash that comes, I remove the Audigy.

By the way, the last Audigy driver's description says it removes (some) bugs causing games to crash. So there is something there. Spot on, Merlanni, hehe. Suppose it's EAX.

Edit: Had a crash, removed Audigy, restarted, things have worked so far.

Edit: Tried to install new drivers for graphics. Ended up unable to find old ones or restore the changes. Could only install new stuff from ATI's website. Now it hangs already when launching a game.

Format your computer and start all over without the sound card.
