Quasi-technical question/problem re: saved games

    I am currently in Watcher's Keep (for the first time) on the second level. And, for no apparent reason, my saved games have suddenly taken FOREVER to save and load (and by forever, I mean literally fifteen minutes or so). The baldur.sav file within the saved game folder is huge -- nearly 1.5 meg (50% larger than the last save BEFORE entering the keep). The problem is NOT my PC -- it's new, powered by an Athlon XP1700, with 256 meg of memory and WinXP.
    The latest patch from Interplay has been installed. Has this problem ever been mentioned/documented before? Is there a fix? Any help would be appreciated.

    That problem in ToB was noted before and Bioware made a so-called beta-patch to install in such cases.
    (important: this beta-patch should not be installed if you don't have the long load/save problem)
