I got an idea for a Ravenloft module, but I need some answers, first.

What does Ravenloft people call the "Ravenloft world"?

For example if a Forgotten Realms character ends up in Ravenloft and asks one of the locals where they are, what would the locals say?

Also, are people in Ravenloft aware of the planes?

I got the 3rd edition book in .pdf format, but since the Ravenloft setting is not owned by WOTC anymore, it doesn't say anything about the other campaign settings.

These are just guesses on my part:

I've played both Ravenloft 1 and 2 with the Mindscape Engine. I've also skimmed a few 2nd edition texts. From my experiences in both games, and readings, despair and apathy are so ingrained in the inhabitants that their consciousness is very localized. For example, in Strahd's domain, the locals are aware only of Barovia. They neither know of, and are too despondent to care to know of, anything beyond the borders of Barovia.

In that respect, the second question is probably all but answered. Once the mists suck you in, getting out of the Ravenloft world is all but impossible. Planar travel probably doesn't enter into the thoughts of anybody who lives in the Ravenloft world, except of course for the various dark lords who are obsessed with escaping.

    Just my thoughts.

    [IMG] Great.

    Thanks, Beren. :D

By the way, I bought the 2nd edition campagin setting online. It's a lot better than the 3rd edition CS. :)
