Darius took the Gnoll equipment and went out into the market place. 55 gold for 4 battleaxes and 4 suits of studded leather seemed a bit low, but with no other choice, he accepted the offer. Well, maybe they would have better luck once they were on the road again. It was a good thing that Darius had his own money. If he had to resupply on what they obtained along the way, they would come up a little short. After returning to the room, Darius bid Bayne a good night and laid down on his bunk for the night, or at least 4 hours. He could not wait to leave this placce. The Dwarves, although allies, seemed less than accepting of the two.

Bayne counted the gold Darius came back with, it was a measly amount, not even half what the goods were worth. These dwarves were con merchants and destroyers, and the worst thing was they couldnt care less. Bayne sat on his bed and thought, thought about what he would like to do to the dwarves, how he would like to destroy this place and let nature re-run its course in this underground hell hole of evil.
If he and Darius did not leave soon Bayne felt he could not be responsible for his actions, he felt his sword would soon be bloodied.

After 4 hours of meditation Bayne awoke to see Darius already up, "What is the plan for today?" Bayne asked through clenched teeth...

"For today, I just want to get back on the road. We have a long day ahead of us. As we get closer to Griffons Nest, we will encounter more barbarians. I took the liberty of acquiring several barbarian outfits from when you encountered them on the river. If we wear them, and keep a distance, perhaps we can avoid most of the problems that are sure to come our way." With that, Darius gathered his posessions and headed back toward the entrance to the Dwarven City.

Bayne followed close behind, making sure ot keep his head down and not look at any faces of the dwarves lest his anger rose again.

Bayne took one of the barbarian suits and inspected it while they walked. He noted how large it was, it wouldnt even fit a human properly, let alone an elf.

Emerging from the cavern filled Bayne with great joy, the sun shone brightly on his face and the air smelt of the wilderness, a quick glance at Darius reassured Bayne that he was enjoying it as well, a smile lit up both the ranger's faces.

Bayne held up his barbarian outfit, "Let's put these on now, although hopefully we wont need them. Although if we see a lone target or what we perceive as an easy target I say we release some anger..." Bayne gave a wry smile and put on the outfit.

The two started walking the last leg of their journey, to the nest...

"If my calculations are correct, we should reach the Goblintide River about sunset. We can cross the river at Knotts Ferry. There is an Inn there I think. Perhaps we can stay the night and get some decent rest. We then be entering the domain of the Griffon Tribe. Shining White is not far from the ferry, and Griffon's Nest is just a little further,"

Trying on the barbarian clothes, Darius notices that the two elves are not quite as stout as a typical barbarian. "Well, they may help from a distance. When we get close to Knotts ferry, we should remove these garments. I'm not sure if the barbarians are welcome there."

    Bayne nodded in agreement.
"I hope we dont meet any adventurers that actually do mistake us for barbarians, twouldnt be a pretty fight."
Bayne mounted his horse and started riding, "Are you sure these outfits fit with the horses?"
Bayne looks down at his horse and then up at Darius asking what to do.

After travelling for nearly an hour Bayne rose a point, "Why don't we search for some more food so we don't have to keep eating those drasted rations, hopefully this time the food wont come attacthed to any food or any other manner of beast or man."

"Hunting would be a good idea. I can't remember when the last time was I had a decent meal. Wait, yes I can. It was back in Quaevarr." Darius thinks that they shouldn't have given the boar to the dwarves after all, well too late now.
At that, Darius begins to scan the ground for tracks.

At Darius' agreement Bayne quickly lowers his head to scan the ground.
On the low horses it was very easy to scan the ground, the beast done the walking and left the rider free to do whatever he pleased, be it eating or scanning the ground, presently Bayne was doing both.
Holding the reins in one hand with a pack ration in the other. When he was nearly finished his meal he leant forward and fed some to his horse, not wishing it to become hungry and fatigued as it was already looking.
"I say we look for a water hole, it will give us a place to rest for a while, give the beasts somewhere to drink from and a watering hole would be a good place to hunt."
Bayne looked at Darius for his approval.

(Ooc- i was wondering what your thoughts were on players taking the initiative with such things as spotting an animal and stuff like that)

A water source would be good, Darius thought. He could use some fresh water for his skins too. "A good thought. Keep an eye out for one. Perhaps we will get lucky." After a short while, the two could see the tell tale signs of a watering hole. they could see its location several miles ahead. "Look here," Darius points to the ground, "it would seem that we are not the only ones to seek out the watering hole." On the ground, the tracks of horses could be easily seen heading in the direction of the water. Darius reighns in his horse. "Perhaps we should walk the remainder of the way to the water. We can approach from cover and see what is there."

OoC: I do not have a problem with you indicating the sighting of an animal and hunting it.

Bayne dismounted from his horse and led it to the side of the road, there he walked a few metres into the trees and tied his horse to a small tree. He also removed the barbarians cumbersome clothes and put them in the ponies pack.
Rejoining Darius on the road Bayne suggested the veer off of the track a few hundred metres to the side, if the persons at the water are expecting company they would expect it from the road, Bayne explained.
The two veered of the the left of the road, after a few minutes of silent walking and quiet abrupt conversation they arrived at the watering hole.

Approaching quietly, Darius and Bayne had gotten into position to see the water source and its surroundings. On the other side, they could see several Deer, drinking from the water. Before they could decide on a course of action in their hunt, several spears caame out of the far trees, striking the deer. in a matter of seconds it was over, and three deer lay dead on the banks. From out of the trees, several very large goblinoids could be seen followed by more smaller ones. in total, there were three large and seven small. The large ones were about 7 feet tall, while the smaller ones were barely 4. Darius whispered to Bayne, "Three Bugbears with Goblin servants, looks like to me. Perhaps a different tactic is in order here, rather than the frontal assault."

"I agree," Bayne replied with a solomn look on his face, "I think twould be a good idea to somehow get rid of the goblins first, maybe a distraction of some kind then we could use these to our advantage."
Bayne pointed to the trees as he spoke.
    "Use them for cover."

Bayne and Darius set up in the trees across the water from the bugbears and goblins. Surprise would be on their side, and Darius handed Bayne his spare Long Bow and a quiver of arrows. The first two arrows soared over the water, one striking a target, and the attack was on. The nest two arrows both struck their mark, and the bugbears began to move around the water to engage the two rangers. The goblins also moved around the water, but in the opposite direction of the bugbears. The two launched two more arrows, with Darius scoring another hit. The bugbears then moved up and threw their javelins at the pair, missing them. Darius drew his long sword, and charged, while Bayne pulled out his great axe and moved around to get the flank. The ensuing Melee with the bugbears lasted for another 7 rounds with the largest of the bugbears receiving Goblin support during the last 4 rounds. After that, the goblins were cut down to one four rounds later. The last one surrendered, and Bayne knocked it out. Darius tied the goblin to one of the trees, while Bayne searched the bodies. The Searching yielded three purses and a curious backpack. The purses each held 90 gold pieces, while the backpack held 30 silver bars and 4 bolts of silk. The total of the items in the pack filled a space well over 5 cu. ft. where the pack should have only been able to hold 1 cu. ft. It was obvious to the two that these creatures had recently raided a merchant caravan.

    Each received 1200 experience points.

Bayne regarded the backpack speculatively for a few minutes. After he had finished he packed away all his loose equipment and mounted his pony again complete with one of the two deer left over from the meal, the other deer over Darius's pony.
The two set off again in a hurry, wanting to get rid of their new found wealth at Knotts Ferry to trade it in for somethign more usable and sleep of their exhaustion from the scirmish.

"Ah, see there. Knott's Ferry, and the Inn's still standing. That's a good sign. I could use a rest, and a good meal. This far out from any major city, the prices may be a bit high, but it will be worth it. I hear that the food is very good here. Perhaps it just seems that way to the weary travelers that come this way."

As the two neared the inn they could pick out detail on the well-kept establishment. The front was covered in a thin screen of mould on the wood, the door was an old oak and the hinges would be rusty had they not been oiled every time the door became too creaky for the patrons to handle.

The closer they got to the inn the more their spirits rose, the conversation soon became light-hearted and jovial, meanderings off the food they would eat and the beds was non-stop.

Soon they stood in front of the inn in all its decripid glory.

Darius and Bayne arrived at Knott's Ferry. There they met another adventuring party, one that Bayne had breifly traveled with.
