So, for a couple of years now i've been a massive fan of Ayreon. But this thread isn't about Ayreon, amazing as it is.

I found that while listening to it, I really enjoyed the... I suppose you could call it "folk-rock" bits of the Ayreon albums. I ended up looking up a singer I liked, then finding music from her band (Heather Findlay of Mostly Autumn).

Thing is, i'm finding the folky rocky type music a little hard to track down as I don't really know who to search for. I'm after recommendations!

And thus ends the most poorly written post since spambots invaded the BoM.

Midnattsol and Blackmore's Night are two that I know of - although I don't like either of them very much. Midnattsol are a great deal better than Blackmore's Night though.

There's a band called Safe Home that I don't know very much about except that it's made up of two ex-Nightblooms members and are labelled folk rock. As The Nightblooms are fantastic, it stands to reason that Safe Home might be as well?

You can search here. From this list (apart from Jethro Tull, who are a must have) I would recommend Ougenweide and Malicorne.

Have a look and see if you can get a copy of the Budweiser USA Music Tour CD. There's everything on there!

BOC is right: Jethro Tull is a must have. But they were a "prog rock" band, with a hard edge as well (and some of there best stuff is hard rock). So if you are looking for their English-folk direction, I would stick with Heavy Horses, Songs From the Wood, Minstrel in the Gallery, and maybe Stormwatch - All from the mid-late 1970s. Great stuff, IMHO.

I'd been recommended Jethro Tull before, but i'd always kinda brushed them aside.

I now realise the enormity of my mistake, and I apologise, not just to the people that recommended me them, but to the band, and to music in general.

Edit: I also heard Alestorm for the first time today. Pirate metal... Somehow it works.

Alestorm is amazing. Check out the song Wenches and Mead; it's a classic.
