RIP Rob's Grandad

    Well we've finally had the phonecall to say that Robs grandfather has passed away. He went at nine o'clock tonight after being in a coma for the past few days.

    I would have put this on the RB thread but Arthur was a pretty important guy.

    He was news editor for the BBC back in the 50's and left them to start up ITN (British news channel/programme). He was also the guy who invented vox-pop interviewing (grabbing people off the street to get their opinions on what was happening). He received an OBE for his services to television as well.
    He was also an author and wrote a book about his experience boxing.

    So there you go. My little tribute to my grandfather-in-law, a great man behind the scenes

    Sil - my heart goes out to you and to yours & Rob's family. There's nothing I can think of to say that would help to convey my empathy towards you during this time, so I'll leave it at that and let you know that my 'door' is always open to you if you need someone to talk to.

    From what I understand, he lived an interesting life doing what he loved to do... and from the way I see it, his list of accomplishments left a legacy that will endure, so in a way, he has achieved a form of immortality.

    Ah, we were expecting it. Rob's sad but kinda relieved that he's not suffering anymore. Plus, towards the end, he got to be more of a git than you Dotty!
