I was thinking to start a game as a Dwarven thief and possibly solo him through the game. I've noticed that dwarves aren't that played race in, well almost any game. If anyone plays munchkins, they seem to pick halflings or gnomes. Are dwarves really that unplayable race? What's so bad about dwarves? Why shouldn't a dwarf be a thief? The max. 17 dex? Why in all the realms there aren't that many dwarven cutpurses and cutthroats? Gamewise I'm thinking that the dwarves 19->(20) constitution would be neet. "No pansy healing magicks for me!" Also the tome of constitution is easy to get early in the game and flesh golems so easy prey...

Better yet, make a dwarf fighter/thief so you can get that uber constitution. A single class thief gets no additional hitpoints for a Con higher than 16. Dwarves are great, as their bonuses in thieving skills are for open locks and find traps.

Seriously considered that, but then I couldn't make him an assassin or possibly a shwashbuckler in BG2. Then again a fighter/thief might be better than those...

Dwarven F/T is a great solo once you get regen.

People typically pick halflings for the immense thieving bonuses combined with the extra DEX, but I've never been able to stand the lowered STR if I'm min-maxing.

Gnomes get picked because of the Illusionist thing. They're the only short race that gets arcane powers, and the boost to INT is awesome if you use it right.

But the reason people don't play these races in these games is because they're already there. You've got Kagain (or Korgan for BGII) as the typical dwarf, and he starts with regen. There's Monty or Alora for the halfling thief stereotype, and Quayle has the gnome Illusionist thing down (or Jan in BGII). So there's no reason to remake these great NPCs as a PC. But if you're really, truly despairing about the lack of little people, check out this thread. :D

Originally my post was inspired by that thread although I thought about playing a dwarven thief long before reading conversations concerning the little people...I think that somehow the whole fantasy world industry and people loving fantasy worlds are somehow biased to not favoring the wee-ones (now who's the racist here?), or making the munchkins only side characters. For example there's Ajantis and Keldorn as human paladins and they're pretty well rounded characters and still people like to play pallies. In bg there's Minsc and Kivan as rangers and people play normal rangers and not only the cleric/ranger monster, and so on.

EDIT: And another thing: Don't even get me started on how hard it is to find a portrait or even a normal picture of a bearded female dwarf! Tried to find, and the best suitable were male gnomes or dwarves! How hard could it be for an artist to draw a nice looking bearded dwarven lass?

"And the dwarves they go a swimming, with little hairy wimmen! Bouhahahaha!"

By the way I liked the Quayle story a lot. Hope it'll continue soon...
