There are actually several products on the market that can fix a scratched CD/DVD. The one I use is the Skipdoctor CD Repair Kit. It's pretty cheap, and takes off a thin layer of plastic on the face of the disk, removing the scratches. Works like a charm when a CD has the grand canyon on the face of it... :rolling:

i read some reviews on it and some people swear by it and others say that it ruins their cds completely! so hard to judge wether it is worth it or not. plus it is just so expensive! here in SA i'll be paying 7 TIMES the amount you pay. pretty hectic. it sounds pretty sketchy that you remove a layer of your cd. is there no DIY way of fixing them?

Well...those people that ruined the CDs probably weren't using the included spray...you have to keep the surface of the CD wet while resurfacing the disk. Like I said, I've never had a problem using it...hell, I've resurfaced the same disk 3 times once, and it still works fine. Resurfacing a burned CD is where things get a little iffy... :bad:

Actually, if you know how a disk is made, and have seen a magnified close-up of a cross section of a disk, it perfectly safe to remove a layer of plastic on the face...the amount removed in *very* miniscule, which is why I was able to resurface one of my disks 3 times.
As far as I know, no, there is not. There *is* the old toothpaste myth, but in my experience, it causes more damage than good...besides, it's doing the same thing that the Skipdoctor CD Repair Kit does, just not uniformly. :bad: :rolling:

After searching the net a bit i got the idea to ask a local video store if the can do it. i found one that'll charge R20 (+-$3). i'll let you know how it works. thanks for the ideas and i might look into investing in a skipdocter when the exchange rate comes back under control.
