[IMG] Well...like all crappy companies, Maxtoris being bought out by it's better.

Good for Seagate! Hopefully this will put more preashure on Western Digital to up their waranty to 5 years.

Read the full story at Seagate's news room.

Personally, I love Seagate drives, and I hope this merger won't mess with their quallity. :rolling:

Kitrax I have no problem with my Maxtor HDD. In fact it is backed by a 3 years warranty. Which is more than enough for me. By that time I hope to upgrade my system to SATA-II with Raid 5.

I think Maxtor gets a bad rap. I've never had problems with one of their drives, and I have one of their 250GB drives running as my main drive atm. But I've had IBM, Seagate and WD drives fail on me in the past. IMO, I hope the merger doesn't hurt the performance of the Maxtor drives...which are really quite fast.

The only Maxtor drive I've had fail was one that was about seven-years old and abused to the core. I've never had a problem with WD, there's no need for them to have a five-year warranty. The drive will last that long. I have had Seagate drives fail in the past, however.

I own stock in Seagate, so here's to hoping that the price will go up!
