The Cormorant sped downstream, past the point where the Surbrin joined the fast flowing Dessarin Eiver. After a while they spotted their quarry, the 'Black Pig'. Garacaius cast mage armour on the fighters and Hayden cast Bulls strength on himself. As they came up behind Mistle slept some of the crew. The others opened up with crossbows and magic misssiles. Garacaius spotted the enemy wizard and took him out with a single batch of mms.

Then Springheel Jack appeared on deck with a knife at Jakob's throat. He was joined by crewmen with knives threatening Ilmenost and Jack Summer. He bargained to be allowed to leave in peace in return for the prisoners. When the party agreed he kicked the still bound prisoners overboard into the river and sailed off. The Cormorant dropped anchor and lowered sail; Milla, Majikus and Hayden dived in. Milla rescued Jakob, Majikus Ilmenost and Hayden Jack Summer. Jakob was revived, the other were in bad shape and were taken below where Majikus tended to them.

After some debate Hayden convinced the others that Springheel had broken his word and they should persue him. Once more the chase was on. They caught up with the 'Pig' in the gorge through the Dessarin Hills. A furious missile barrage was exchanged as the two craft edged closer, Jakob's sharpshooting accounting for a couple, aided by Mistle's battlesong. At 6 ft Hayden leapt across and started swinging his axe. He was attacked by Springheel with a rapier. Milla and Garacius crossed too but Hayden growled 'He's mine'. Mistle hit the steersman, who left the wheel and dived overboard. Blood was exchanged but at last Hayden cut down Springheel Jack for the last time. Milla struggled with the wheel but to no avail, The 'Pig' struck the rocky bank and heeled over throwing everyone to the deck. From below came a sickening splintering sound.
