I really enjoyed the baldur's gate series all the way through. I have currently purchased plane-scape torment as well. Graphics aren't a big deal to me, it's mostly the RP and story elements.

I've heard that IWD is more action-oriented, but how much so? Please compare it to BG II, as i've been playing that more recently.

And if i should get it, how much is it worth to purchase (whether new, or on Ebay, or amazon or whatever.)

IwD has a story, although to be honest, I'm not sure it's all that outstanding of a story. It's not terrible, but it's not really anything completely "new".

I would say that BG1 has an original story, but it doesn't go about telling it all that excellent. Icewind, in that respect, does a little better job. You don't get sidetracked or "outside" the storyline. Everything is furthering the story; that crypt you just cleared out served to move the story further.

Icewind does a very good job of telling it's story. From the starting movie to the end movie. Just pay attention to the opening movie, carefully, as it will have a direct impact on the very end of the game. When they wrote the Icewind story, they were reading it straight out of the book. ;)

HoW has it's own sub-story. And to be honest, I wouldn't say it's told well or all that outstanding. But it makes the original Icewind considerably better, strictly based on the 800x600 resolution and pathfinding. If you focus on the dungeon crawling, HoW and Trials of the Luremaster are excellent. They don't compeltely overwhelm you like Dungeon Siege does, but it's enough of a challenge to feel like an accomplishment at the end.

[IMG] You should always buy games through SP and support the site that way. You'll also get an avatar/portrait here if you do. IWD+HoW is only 20 bucks at Amazon.

    Yes, get it.
I will as soon as BG2 starts to get old on me.
And I'll get it through this place (if I remember to)!

I really wish I could have played IWD series before the BG series, because I would have enjoyed them both so much more. The roaming and questing you do from map to map in BG can get tiresome sometimes and in IWD there isn't any! That is my only complaint with the game, otherwise it is terrific :) And make sure you download Trials of the Lurmaster if you get it, many more hours of gaming enjoyment ;)
