[IMG] I have some pictures I'd like to resize into portraits for BG2. Is it possible to shrink the picture down to the proper size with Paint? I can crop it down, but it looks very stupid.

Yup, I've done that plenty. On the top options choose Image->Stretch/Skew, or just hit Ctrl+W. The stretch numbers allow you to enlarge or reduce the picture (make sure both are the same so you don't get something weirdly stretched out), but you can only do non-decimal numbers for the percentages. So if you want to shrink something down to 1/8, for example, you'd have to shrink it twice using 25% and 50%.

In order to figure out what percentage you need, pull up Calculator and divide what you need by what you have. Since you'll want to not have white space, go by the axis you need to shrink least (the larger percentage) and make sure what you shrink to is above that. You can then crop the other axis. It doesn't always work perfectly, and some pics will need to be stretched or just forgotten about. On the plus side, the small port size is almost exactly 35% of the large port size.
