I've been playin this game off an on for years now. Whenever I get bored I check out this forum and it draws me back to the game. Someone always has a new idea or strategy that I have to try for myself. Thank you guys.

Anyways, I have an idea for an for a party that utilizes the Skald. I have 3 choices in mind:

    1.) 5 skalds and 1 tank.

2.) 6 skald party using buffed summons. At 15th level (I think) those summons would have +24 ac, hit and damage.

    3.) Tank, c/t & 4 skalds.

I'm leaning towards the last option because the added buffs clerics. Also if I'm going to waste a slot I'd like it to have some thieving skills.

Stategy would involve buffing the tank/summons, make the skalds invisible, play bard song and start hacking with tank. I know you can cheese with mislead and bardsong but I don't want to do that (or maybe I do... but with 4, 5 or 6 skalds).

There will be more than enough arcane spells to throw around if the party gets into a mess that can't be solved by brute force.

Question is, what would be the best option for tank? Is one necessary?

btw. Too lazy to wait for HLA bard song. So they gotta be skalds (no blades).

I think the best tank would be barbarian or beserker specifically for the resistances. You'll be destructive in close combat but spells will hurt so any resistances would be good.

Another option would be a paladin to use the Holy Avenger, Cloak of Balduran and various other items to get max magic resistance which would allow you to avoid a lot of... well, almost anything. For added cheese (though... well, if you're not going to wait for HLAs then it wouldn't work) but a Wizard Slayer/Thief.

Also, a Monk might be fun. High magic resistance, does tons of damage.

Thanks. I like the monk idea. He should be unhitable at high levels, can heal himself in a pinch and have enough mr & immunities to avoid those annoying spell effects.

One more question, does anyone know if a monk wielding the scarlet ninja-to in the off-hand with nothing in the main hand, strikes with his kung fu fists or normal fists?

Sounds like a cool idea, if all those skalds sing, along with their Milseads, this would give massive bonus to the tank, which may work.

I recoomend you get Rogues Rebalancing though, for new and cool Bard HLAs, and P&P spell progression mod to allow bards to cast 8th level spells. They are badly nerfed in the game for no reason.

Why not make the tank a Blade? Then, in addition to the Skalds, you could have the Blade's Mislead singing too (though that would make your tank invisible, creating some problems). And then when you get HLAs it just makes them better.

The only real problem with this build is that there is an AC cap (maybe as low as -30, I don't remember exactly). With a fair number of the bosses' THAC0s being in the -20s, you'll still get hit almost every time.

However, the skald party would be an excellent way to shepard the monk through his weak lower levels until he can take on any enemy without backup. Get the Scarlet Ninja-To early, as that's when it's best used by the monk. Later the monk will be getting up to 4 attacks per round with some serious damage dice, and the Scarlet Ninja-To will seem like crap in comparison, but when he's low-level it'll be a big help. Single Weapon Style is a must.

I don't know there was an AC cap. What is this actually? I remember having -25 or better AC with some cheesy mod items though. :shake:
