Sleep... Crash!

Discussion in 'BG2: Throne of Bhaal (Classic)' started by TriLleX The Slayer, Jun 15, 2002.

  1. I got the latest patch and some various mods that have never troubled me before. I had just started Chapter 2 and had my first romance dialog with Jaheria. I need some sleep after those berks so I tried to sleep in the street. Suddenly it just crashed. Please help.

It doesn't have to be problem with mods. Perhaps your dreaming sequences are messed up.

Try with emptying folders temp, tempsave and cache (delete contents from inside those, but not the folders).

If that has no effect, try with uninstalling mods one by one to track down which one screws the game (if it's really the problems with mods).

If even that won't help, I suppose reinstallation is the only possible cure.

  3. I took the easiest way and reinstalled. Then I updated it, installed the mods and started all over. Still crash.. It's wierd cause it have never done it before. Quite wierd because it's the same mods I use every time.

Ok, check values of these three variables:
    CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("HadImoenDream1","GLOBAL")
    CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("HadJonDream1","GLOBAL")
    CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("HadJonDream2","GLOBAL")

The first variable from these three which is set on 0, change to value of 1 with:
    CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("VARIABLENAMEFROMABOVE","GLOBAL",1)

Then try with the rest. If it helps, that means something screwed dream sequences. But it also means you can proceed with the game. ;)

  5. WORKS ! Thanks :)

    [IMG] Important observations:
I've seen this problem already reported twice at BIS Troubleshooting forum. The actual source of the problem we couldn't detect, but it seems there is some problem with AREA000A.BIF file. It looks that something places this file with size 0 inside DATA folder although it should actually be placed in CD2 folder. The problematic "mod" could be anything, even the official patch is not cleared from suspicion.

So, in case you suffer from this problem, check if your DATA folder contains AREA000A.bif file. If it's there, and if it's size is 0, remove it. The real file is contained in CD2 folder (if you've made a full install) or will be loaded from CD2 (if you've made minimum install).

Also, if you don't find this particular file in DATA folder, do sort all files in that folder by size. If there is any other file with size 0 there, that file is messed up and should be removed.
