SlipKnoT and Baldur's Gate...

Discussion in 'Whatnots' started by herf, Sep 1, 2001.

OK, SlipKnoT have 9 members, 5 of them have played and completed Baldur's Gate 1, two have completed BG2.
Theyre new album has been kind of affected by playing these games, as is shown by some of their new lyrics in their new album, Iowa.
These lyrics are from one song, New Abortion.

"I'm ethereal, my children are legion, serial
They stick to my skin like beloved cysts"

I think this is them talking about Bhaal and how his children are trying to become him.
Ethereal: he isnt real, hes dead
Children are legion: legion is a word for those of evil hearts etc, most of the bhaalspawn...
Like beloved cysts: He made them, he loves them but he still hates them, this is them talking about how bhaal hates his children but needs them.

"Sores, every goddamn minute I can feel 'em now
Like a virus, you will never kill me now"
Theyre talking about how bhaal knows his children are coming.

    "Fields of dejected morbid progeny"
Most of hi children have died as shwon by most of the crumbled statues at the end of the game BG1.

    just my thoughts

  2. Err...Herf, very nice thoughts...but everyone on the chat knows you are like obsessed with Slipknot. Oh well that's cool about slipknot playing RPGs.

Interesting...i'd have thought that the members in Slipknot would rather play "Shoot em' up games" like Doom or Quake etc. Now those games are old but cool!

Yeah most of the dudes in Iowa I've met, in my msce class n such, like shoot em up games. Only _Mmmbeer and this guy named Chris I met a couple weeks ago have actually heard of & played Baldur's Gate.

Yeah, I had no idea Slipknot played BG..let alone had the time to play such a time intensive game.

Hey herf, big show in Cedar Rapids, IA: Slipknot, Mudvayne, Rammstein, and System of a Down. Gunna make a road trip? Should be a good show.

It is just one of those "best before next year" or such, I presume...

A question, will they stay all together for more time than Spice Girls? :p :p

But BG is everlastin'! :p :p

I totaly agree with Headbanger, since I dislike Slipknot too.
But Herf, you should know that singing about fantasy is nothing new in metal ( then again, Slipknot isn't METAL, it's shitty nu metal, but they were prob. influenced by certain metal bands ).
About fantasy in metal, you got the band Blind Guardian for example ( looks like some new songs will be about Dragonlance ) and the whole power metal ganre...

Look, this topic was for people who are interested in SlipKnoT.
This is not a topic for SlipKnoT haters to congregate in and call them shitty nu-metal and all the other shit.
I was onyl remarking on it because it had relevance to the boards, ok?
If you hate SlipKnoT and want to diss them then open a new topic, dont do it here!

p.s. straight from the man himself, corey taylor on Iowa:
"With this album we just wanted to do something to shut everyone up. We got saddled with the whole nu metal thing so early on and we are not nu metal, we are metal, that’s all it is. We are good metal, fucking kick ass metal. We are not this pussy fucking shit that seems to be emanating from America’s veins. That’s all bullshit man."

  11. Herf, if you haven't noticed already, I think if you eliminated all the hate stuff everyone has been saying in this topic, there would only be a slim chance that one or 2 ppl will come to praise slipknot.

Edit: I know how to read, moron.

Now before i get onto anyones tits for some reason or another, i have this to say. In this topic, i didn't diss Slipknot. All i said that i would've expected them to rather play Shoot em' ups cos of the attitude i've seen of them.

[IMG] I luv all metal. But I don´t like Slipknot very much. They can go f*ck themselfs. Sick bastards. I listen to Cradle of Filth too, but they make good music at least. Slipknot is boring to listen to. And that´s what I think.

I like punk rock, and some hardcore rock as well, but i really dislike goth bands such as manson and slipknot. I would also like to note, that I think you're looking into this a bit too much. Slipknot is not so great nor is their music so profound as to be analyzed.

Yeah, well we all have our preferences. Slipknot are good but they do tend to cram a lot of crap into their songs, like Correy moaning or something at the end.eg. Eyeless even though that is still a great song.
Spineshank are the best nu metal band around, their music is perfect!

Even though i do not listen to Dark Metal, i must say, i actually think Cradle of Filth is okay. I find it hilarious with the way they change pace and the way the vocals are first deep and then a sharp shriek! But hey! Assuming its two singers in the band, i'd say that they are pretty good vocalists for their style of music. Anyhow, i'm currently borrowing Cradle of Filth from a friend and go to bed with it playing.

As for Slipknot, i like the song 'Wait & Bleed' but thats it. after that, i don't think much of their stuff. Also, I think that they are sick gits pissing and puking on people at concerts and chopping off live bulls heads with the blood going into a crowd. I just think that that is seriously disturbed. But thats just my opinion. And its up to certain people if they like to be wee'ed on and vomitted on with a tint of bull blood.
