What I want is a kind of program like Paint, so I can put some pics, text, background, etc. and that could save as a image (jpg, etc.) but a little bit more 'fancy'. I tried Word but it won't save as an image. And not too big (Photoshop and kind of).
Any ideas?

Paintshop Pro X. It's easy-to-use and has several, nice effects to cheer up your pics. It isn't intended for ûber-pro-specialists either.

 

Or, if you are happy with your result in Word, you can always take a screenshot, paste it in Paint, and save it as an image.

Crappy solutions rule!


Anyway, I normally use CorelDraw and Corel PhotoPaint for pretty much anything related to image editing, and I find it quite easy to use. They even work fine even on my Win98SE laptop.

Wirhe is right, though. PaintShop Pro is very user-friendly and could be a good choice.

No, it is the best choise out of many, commercial and non-commercial. It has a slick GUI, touching up images is easy, and it has all the necessary features available without hassle. You can even create simple scripts to edit images in batches.

 

I've used Paint, Print Shop, M$ PictureIt, Kodak's EasyShare, and Adobe Photoshop CS, and the easiest program of them all was M$ PictureIt. It does what most people need it to do, and it does it fairly easy too.

Kodak's software does the basics, and not much else, and the Print Shop was just horrible. Don't consider Photoshop unless you have a large bankroll and enough extra time to learn how to use it.

 

Hehe, and it's seems to be out of my budget too...
For what I see in the demo version isn't too difficult to learn and it does what I want to do.
I'll try a few freewares around and then, if needed, I'll buy Photoshop.

 

it may be a little too complex for your needs, but gimp is probably the best bet for image manipulation freeware

 

Gimp is very good, and keeps getting better with new releases. It will do most things that Photoshop does (minus the very advanced things), can recognise a wide variety of formats, and is a small 10meg download (that includes the GTK library that it requires). It's also got a rather unique interface, where menus can be accessed by right-clicking on the image. Once you get used to the system (took me 10 minutes...) you can do everything without ever going back to the top menus or the toolbar, which is really handy.

 

IMO, the gimp is only good if you're using linux. As when I tried installing it in windows, it messed up my dosbox install, and just runs very buggy under windows. Maybe it's just my system config, who knows? But in linux it works fine though.

 

I personally use PhotoShop and FireWorks MX. Fireworks is perhaps the best for web design work and PhotoShop is the photo manipulation software.

 

Never had a problem with Gimp under Windows. I can run both it and DosBox at the same time with no trouble at all. You might have had an older version (the program wasn't that great before version 2)

I'd have to disagree with you Rastor... THE photo manipulation software for me would have to be Corel's. I don't recommend it for casual use though, as fully taking advantage of its features can be a real headache.
