    Hi!

Time to finally "break into" this gem of a game. (See my "Jukka's Ultimate Powergaming Party" for Icewind Dale II if you're unfamiliar how I utilize that term... :D ) I have the four-boxed set, so I'm mostly concerned with a complete run-through with importing my protagonist between BG1 and BG2, using EasyTuTu for BG1 since I can't seem to get it to run on my Windows XP otherwise.

    Now for the questions:

    1) How is damage calculated on attack, in more exact terms? I know the basics about weapon dice rolls, proficiency, strength and such, but it can still get hazy with crits, damage resistances and all that.

I'm assuming the BASE damage of attack is:
Weapon dice roll + weapon dmg bonus + strength bonus + proficiency bonus + class/kit bonus + racial enemy bonus + spell/ability bonus

On a crit, the BASE damage is doubled. (Any other modifiers that affect the result before/after crit doubling?)

Any extra damage (such as Firetooth's +1d2 fire damage) is added after crit/other multipliers.

Damage resistances apply it's percentage per each type of resistance after all other modifiers have been taken into account, most likely rounding up so that a weakling hit on an Adamantite Golem still scores at least 1 point of damage...

    2) Is there any other ranged weapons besides Sling of Seeking +2 and the various throwing axes/hammers that allow for Strenght damage modifier? Firetooth (the dagger) doesn't seem to at least, which pretty much foils the "Kensai mega-Archer" ownage.

    3) Has anyone tried using Wondrous Gloves on Jan Jansen after he gets UAI? :p

    4) Is there ANY ranged weapons where Strength matters in HITTING stuff, or is it just DEX that matters?

    5) As far as I've been able to test, a dualwielding character is forever doomed to only melee attacks (spells/scrolls/wands and the like notwithstanding) since having an off-hand weapon equipped prevents ANY ranged weapon being equipped. Confirm/deny?

2)It's not documented and probably a bug: that +5 Sling from Joluv (Angorveen?) adds the Strength bonus , too.

It's not as though your off-hand weapon was glued to your left hand. You can remeove it whenever you like and equip a ranged weapon. Annoying, yes, but preferable to getting smashed by a Dragon or other big things in a melee fight.

Not sure if a Fixpack has been able to fix it, but F/M and F/Cl used to be able to dual-wield Melf's Minute Meteors and Energy Blades.

I tried holding a sword in my main weapon hand and a sling in the other and the game wouldn't do it.

However, you don't need to use both hands to use a sling. I sometimes have people (like clerics) that use a single handed weapons while frequently equipped with a shield in their off hand while a sling is in one of the slots for my main weapon hand. That way I can easily switch between ranged and hand to hand combat and I don't have to put the shield away (the NPC using the sling doesn't need his/her off-hand free).

Doing some multi-click inventory manipulation JUST to shoot/throw something is pretty much the same as not being able to do it - ie. can't be arsed to on a regular basis. A bit strange, actually, since having a shield in the off-hand doesn't impose such penalty - as long as the ranged weapon in question can be used with one hand.

Yeah, different weapon configurations (at least for fighter types) would've been great. Most of the time I don't have the patience do open the inventory, unequip Spider's Bane (for Free Action) and the Long-/Crossbow just to put the shield in the shield slot (afterwards I even have to click the remaining (one-handed) weapon again because the last weapon slot I clicked on was the bow - which I unequipped!).

Why don't the shield's bonuses and the image on the paperdoll just vanish when I use a two-handed weapon?
