Me and 2 friends have a history together of playing D&D games on a LAN. Now the time has come to start playing SoZ.

Because 1 of us still had to buy his copy, we decided to "dip in" and check it out by the 2 of us. Now, as soon as we came on the overland map, we noticed that the fights were pretty damn hard with just the 2 of us. Monsters disturbing us (cleric and sorc) during resting pretty much made it unplayable.

The question is, will the campaign be playable for just 3 ppl (instead of the intended 4)? We are experienced D&D players, so we thought we'd be allright. But we got some troubles from the early fights, so we started wondering. Or is it just a case of the typical "it's-hard-the-first-levels-but-it-will-get-better-at-the-later-stages" D&D-syndrom ? :D

It's harder at the beginning since you don't have any good equipment. I found it fairly easy to avoid most overland map encounters I wanted to with my Ranger's good skills (spot, survival etc.), and they show you the ECL for the monster groups you see on the overland map so you can know how tough they should be compared to your level.

A char with good skill points in Hide and/or Move Silently as party leader will help you guys greatly on the Overland Map, Spliff Krieger.

The monsters on the OLM will have a hard time spotting you then.

If you don't have that many points in those two skills, then I suggest one of your guys invest in Cloak and Boots of Elvenkind, which you can buy from Vadin'ya in Samargol.
