PHB Description: "A wizard (and only a wizard) can take the special feat Spell Mastery. Each time the wizard takes this feat, choose a number of spells equal to the wizard's Intelligence modifier (That must be spells that the wizard already knows). From that point on, the wizard can prepare thes spells without referring to a spellbook. The wizard is so intimately familiar with these spells that she doesn't need a spellbook to prepare them anymore."

This means you don't have to study your spellbook for the # amount of time. But does it mean you can call up these spells entirely at will at any time? If so, I've got a nasty Tiefling Rogue/Wizard to be built. This seems like instant cheese :) I'm sure I must be wrong here somewhere. (If not, then think the following spells for my Neutral Evil Tiefling Rogue/Wizard: Invisibility, True Strike, Bull's Strength, Endurance, Cat's Grace, Knock, Alter Self, Bestow Curse)

And you're allowed to take it up multiple times

The way I interpret this is that if something were to happen to your spellbook, you could still cast the spells you have mastery over without having to copy them into a new spellbook first.

it's like a mental spellbook. As Capt. Tripps said, anything happens to the spellbook you can still memorize them.
You still have to prepare the spells, as preparing spells is the same as casting them except for a tiny command word like ending that finished the incantation. (ie. you cast 95% of a magic missile spell at morning, and releases the spell with a certain word or phrase)

You CANNOT cast spells as a sorcerer, period.

Ah, okay thanks. I thought it'd be too cheese to be left in the rules, so I guessed I was wrong anyway.

But it is a handy feat for when for example your horse gets stolen with nearly all your equipment on it. :)

yeah, also it's a prerequisite for some feats that make you able to spontaneously cast some spells.
