Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!

But Blizzard does take its time with its games (not that that is a bad thing) so it might be a year or two before they are done. But I am surprised by how much they have already done with all the screenshots and all.

It's been in production since 2003, so they have worked on it for a long time already.

FINALLY! I have been waiting for this since Brood War came out :)
I love Starcraft. It's my favourite RTS game, my favourite Blizzard game (never been a great fan of Warcraft or Diablo), and one of my favourite SF settings in a game. Hopefully we won't have to wait another 10 years before Blizzard releases it :shake:

It was? I mean I've heard rumours, but those were quickly shot down and with Starcraft: Ghost, I figured that its unlikely for them to make two games in the starcraft universe in parallel.

    yeh.

    me too.

i havent played a really good RPG game in ages. Fable was too short, didnt really like the Elder Scrolls series. LOD and BGII arew the best ive played.

ok LOD is more of a hack and slash clickfest to some, but its still a pretty good game.

I think they are going to make a big deal out of this one. And I can't wait! I was playing Starcraft for years before I got tired of it... and collected books based on the world.

saw this on gamespot alreeady :)

about damn time too. Starcraft came out in that period of time when I had my allowance and no inclination to spend it on girls or booze yet :p and the game seriously owned it back then, and that's somthing because I HATE sci-fi and RTS type games usually.

crap, I guess this means that I'll really need to upgrade my comp now :/

I liked the original will surely keep an eye on this one, hope they don't butcher up the sequel like they did with Diablo II, the original was IMO way better.

Hmmm, I dont think I like the new graphics all that much. Looks too much like Warcraft 3, with the weapons waaaaay out of proportion to the actual critter themselves. I mean, look at the seige tank in the screenshots (i think it is a seige tank anyway), it looks even more fake than the original one. Still, this probably wont stop me buying it, as I am a huge fan of the original.

Oh, and by the way, are those marines in the screenshots wearing shields as well as carrying a large rifle???

    Hehe... I can't wait.

One question lurks in my mind, though: Will we finally see the damn Protoss/Zerg hybrids?

Well, I'm glad to see Blizzard focused on something other than Warcraft for a change (well, publicly at least).

The game looks good, but I'm not finding myself saying "oh my god, this is going to be unbelievable," or anything. It sort of just looks like the old game (which isn't a bad thing necessarily) with a visual overhaul.

Of course, I've only seen a small preview, and it's pretty early yet, so there's plenty of opportunity for impressions to change I think.

I'm sure I'll end up getting it. Blizzard is probably the best pc game developer around, so I'm sure the finished product will be quality.

Hmmm... I think I have to agree that I would have prefered Diablo3 over Starcraft2, but having said that, I did like Starcraft 2 better than the any of the games in the Warcraft series, which is kind of stange, seeing how they are basically the same type of game. I mean, yeah, one is futuristic, while the other is fantasy, but the general principle of using your units in such a way to win is the same. Come to think of it, I don't know WHY I liked Starcraft so much more than Warcraft.

Because with the exception of Warcraft 3, the Warcraft races were mirror images. Starcraft introduces radical differences in the races while still keeping a pretty good balance between them. Warcraft 3 borrowed from that, but I wish they hadn't cut the water units without adding flying transports like Starcraft; makes getting around some maps a hassle when you've got to find a Goblin Laboratory to get some zeppelins from. :bad:

Personally, I just hope they don't get overcomplicated with Starcraft 2. From what I've seen there's no fear of going under-complicated, but that does make me fear the opposite. And the new graphics...all that means to me is the need for a more sophisticated computer to play it on. I don't need pretty, I need fun and playable.

My hope is that they truly innovate this time around. Nearly every RTS that's come out in the last 2-3 years are exactly the same, with minor differences (and of course, different themes and factions). I'm hesitant to think that all that can be innovated into an RTS has been done already. I'd really like to see Blizzard reinvent the genre all over again.

Sounds promising, but I seriously hope that it won't be yet another "fast-paced adrenaline AXN" -title. I can't stand games where the best multitasking guru wins by default.

I wonder if they will keep the hero system from Warcraft III?

If they do, it opens up a whole new realm of possibilities... that I can have fun with

Well, there were effectively here units in Starcraft. Units manned by special characters had increased damage and armor then the typical units, and sometimes had special abilities that the base type of that unit didn't have. The only difference was you couldn't resurrect them, and one of the mission requirements were that the hero unit survived. Of course, because they had to survive the mission, and you couldn't resurrect them, it also limited the usefulness of these units, as you didn't want to screw up a mission you spent the last hour playing by having one of the main characters die when you were so close to victory. So they gave you a really good unit - that you really couldn't use.
