I've seen Elephant Seals on television. They lived on a cold, wet and windy island, too. None of them were wearing suits, though.

    Muahaha! Splendid!

Big people need clothes too or you'd rather the fatties walk around naked? It is quite hard for overweight people to find clothes which I find rather strange considering that obesity is as rampant as it is. I am quite fat but not morbidly so, XL tends to be slightly too small for me although I can wear it in a pinch but I much prefer XXL but I am poo out of luck in most stores. XL is the biggest in your average store so I welcome any increase in choice of clothes even for us degenerates who dare to be of less than perfect physical shape.

Oh come on, there's overweight, there's fat, and then there's a 60 INCH waist. That is just massive. I consider myself a little overweight, and I'm 34 inch waist!

Surely a person that big doesn't exist - which is the point.

If there ARE people that big... then I certainly hope I'm not paying the same price as them on the plane :nono:.

My brother-in-law is BIG. I mean really big -- I honestly think he can lift the back of his pickup truck off the ground. He's also overweight and could stand to lose ~75 pounds. He has a 50 inch waist and XXXL fits tight. I can easily see how a person could have a 60 inch waist.

By the way ... hi Arabwel. It's good to see you back.

[IMG] Ok, that's enough, seriously. It's really sad to see so many immature jibes and so much prejudice against overweight people from a supposedly mature community. What I'm reading here looks more like a primary school bully club ganging up for a fatty beating than a discussion that I'd expect to find on the BoM. What, tolerance stops at a 40" waist? I guess it's never occurred to any of you that there are dozens of thousands of people out there with a medical condition contributing to their weight?

I'm honestly amazed how so many people who consider themselves cultured and tolerant think that fat people are somehow free game to make fun of and ridicule.

Well, I'm sorry for being so rude earlier.

Still, I don't think that a 60 inch waist is supposed to be seen as normal. That scares me the most, perhaps. The thought that everybody sees excessive overweight as normal. Because, IMHO, it's not. And if everybody starts seeing being fat as okay, we end up with big health problems.
That's would be just as stupid as thinking we should look like (or compare ourselves with) scrawny catwalk models.

I'm pretty sure my recent problems, in addition to hair loss, have taken me past a 60 inch waist.

... and I wear XXXXXL shirts now. I can fit in a XXXXL easily, even a XXXL sometimes, but I prefer my shirts a little oversized.

Finding new clothes tends to be painful to say at the least; but eventually, is the least of my problems nowadays.

Well on one hand it's a good thing that people who are morbidly obese get the chance to buy affordable clothing but on the other hand it's a worrisome reminder of the development in the western world about the increasing overweight among the population when these markets are growing.

Getting fitting clothing is not just a problem for overweight people, I have a very tall friend who constantly moans about his clothing being so much more expensive than for most because he has to buy everything from a specialized store.

We all have done things or do things that are not accepted by society at large. Fatness is one of those really, really visible things that society doesn't really take too well, and it is one of the last remaining things that is seen as OK to mock.

My wife is a big woman. I've never asked her her clothing size and I likely never will. But her value as a person is beyond description. I used to be a mocker, and I would have thought a post like this was a load of sanctimonious crap, but I see the way people look at her, and I see how she reacts when she thinks no one is looking, and it pisses me off. If we all had our vices / problems displayed for the world to see, how well would we fare?

You don't need to see excessive body weight as "normal". It obviously isn't when looked at from a medical POV. But that doesn't mean that fat people have any less feelings than anyone else. There's a good reason why we're not calling people with mental disorders or illnesses retards or idiots any more. They're not "normal" from a medical POV either, but if you latch on to that, the next step is starting to treat them as sub-human.

Do you see where I'm going with this?
