If you look back at Rotku's opening post in the original Rashemen OoC thread, he quotes some other place with some very good rules and examples. I particularly liked the one where the 'okay' example was along the lines of swinging a sword at someone, and the 'not okay' example had them decapitating them and then running off to impregnate their sister and beat up Elminster, or something like that. :shake:
It also reinforces RPing and quests. And RPing is very important for...well...RPing.
I'm not sure I can speak to ugly (one man's beauty queen is another's pug), but it's an effective way of presenting that information. Just about everyone here found the place through the games, and thus will understand the stats, as HB has already said.
Meh. I'd blame that more on 'brainwashing' by the Tsujatha mod than a brainfart. ;)

D&D doesn't actually mechanically reward RPing unless the GM feels like it - it's a very optional rule. Buuut if you want to continue this conversation I can do into much greater depth - in PM, because we'd be being off topic here :p

It is effective for presenting the raw data, sure - but seeing that this style of RPing is closer to co-operative storytelling and that raw data isn't very evocative - I would not say that it is an effective way of presenting information for this style of game.

Now I believe the CS's are very useful. A good RP can get very involved and very long. Notes are important to an author and when you have multiple authors they are even more important.

I think Felinoid has brought out the main thing with forum RPing. It is just that Role Playing. Sure the action is important but imo the stickest part of the RP. Here is were a RP can get bogged down or out of hand.

With pnp a DM develops a story and scenario and guides the players through the adventure. He or she is in control at all times or should be. People are gathered together and can discuss something right then and there.

Does every RP need a CS with all kinds of stats? No. It is just a handy reference and is a fairly new innovation here. There is no rule that a RP has to have one.

RPing should be fun. So what ever makes it easier for the player is fine with me. I don't have to join an RP and wouldn't have the time for all the ones we have right now even if I wanted to.

The same goes for rules. They let the potential player know the boundaries of what their character can be and do.

I think it is kind of like the rule that you drive on the right side of the street (or the left in the UK). It keeps traffic moving in the right direction with hopefully a minimum of collisions.
