    hey all,
before i start i'll say that i'm kinda sorta computer literate when it comes to hardware. i've been having some minor issues with my games (Battle for Middle Earth, KotOR, NWN, Pool of Radience, even IWD2 and BG2) lately. i thought i had a good fast computer and i would stop getting the lag and pauses during combat or just walking around, but nope it is still happening. i'm running everthing maxed out on all the games just cause i thought my PC could handle it. some of the problem instances are like in IWD2 i've got a 2 person party and they were fighting at least 10-15 hook horrors at a time and combat would keep lagging. in NWN and KotOR i get lag just by walking around, but not so much in combat only occassionally maybe 1 battle out of 3 different times playing. i also get lag during battles in Battle for Middle Earth. Are the minor lags common or should i just tone down the graphics options?

    my PC specs:
    Asus A7N8X NVIDIA nForce2 motherboard
    AMD 3000 (1.3 Ghz)
    1GB 4400 or 3200(?) DDR RAM
    GeForce 5900FX Ultra (256MB)
    120GB HD

My guess is that the games you named are a fine example of bad programming. I have a decent rig myself, and NWN is terrible if you max out the graphics. Sometimes it runs smoothely. Then I try to increase resolution (just for the very fun of it). OK, the game lags now. Switch back to the original resolution, and voilĂ : the game lags as well, although it hadn't before. Bad programming.

Try to run a shooter like DOOM3 or similar to confirm that your PC is set-up correctly.

Defragment your hard drive, do a complete scan for adware and viruses, close down any TSR programs.
