i found that the best way...sicne they're pretty immune to magic... is to use either Brine water (u get 9 i think from the Mind Flayer base) or the Green Amulet from one of the walls in the Beholder Dungeon... make urself immune to their spells...then run across them and attract them away from ur party... then u can attack them or whatever bodyguards they have while ur pals tkae potshots at their brains with crossbows and bows....

also.. a question... in the mind flayer base.. in the area u can collect a sample of that blood... a mind flayer always teleports himself there.. a good place for practice...

I usually use summoned undead; skeletons, skeleton warriors to slay the flayers, since they have no brain to devour, they are immune to anything mind flayers do!

Yeah Anomen (assuming you tok the 'good' cleric) will be at least level 15 by then. I don't like many of the other level 3 priest spells so I have 3 slots for animate dead. Imoen can also cast it. So I can raise an undead army fairly quickly. Mindflayers can't do much, but make sure you try to take the ulberhulks out otherwise they will kill our skeleton freinds (the death spell usually works)

[IMG] Chaotic Commands and ranged weapons, as well as summoned cannon fodder in between you and them as advised above.

Drinking potions that increase your intelligence temporarily like Potions of Genius etc also help if you get into melee with them.

[IMG] Chaotic command is a good spell. It is why there is always need for a good cleric in a party. Not to mention that above level 15 the cleric can suumon an unstoppable horde of skeleton warriors, AWESOME!!!

[IMG] I think the amulet from a killed Mordenkainen's Sword may not be a bug.
This have been coded in deliberately, it's not like when something has been overlooked.

It also only has one charge. On the other hand, being able to get around that by selling and buying it back from a merchant may be a bug. And then again maybe it's intentional.

Edited in later: Actually, it appears that the Greenstone Amulet from Mordenkainen's Sword is in fact a bug!

[IMG] No, that amulet is there for you to find!

I was only talking about the amulet which drops when a Mordenkainen's Sword is destroyed. It seems the designers had intended to use the amulet to make Mordenkainen's Sword immune to several mind affecting spells. It was meant to disappear when the sword is killed.

Weird, I've never gotten it. Not that I'd even use any limited charge items...

The ones you meet in the ambush can be killed by a deathspell. This takes care of both the flayers and the hulks. Dosn't work on the others though.
