Yes, the big red chest in Helm's Hold's prison/dungeon. So many years playing NWN, i am kind of .... gave up on opening that trapped chest. No magic can damage it, no rogue can disarm it.

So, i want to know, is there a story behind the chest? i mean so many updates already and they took away many bugs but that particular chest is still there no matter what.

 

A pixie familiar is capable of dealing with that chest. There is random treasure inside.

 

Couldn't you just bash it from a distance with a ranged weapon, or with spells?

 

no, ranged weapon and spell do no damage

if a pixie familar can deal with that, why can't tomi? because i tried tomi and he "no can't do"

 

Because Tomi stupidly puts the majority of his ample skillpoints into sneaking whereas the Pixie puts loads into traps/locks and even gets the appropriate skill focus feats as she levels up. That chest is thoroughly annoying, I agree. Another option is to cast the best elemental protection spell you have (if indeed you have one) and hope you get lucky with a reflex save. A combination of the two usually (but not always; its certainly a beast of a trap) leaves you just about alive.
