[IMG] Okay, so I just saw the Departed yesterday and one thing puzzled me..

When Delahunt got shot (and eventually died) after they threw Martin Sheen off the building, he spoke to DiCaprio and let him know that he knew he was the rat because he gave him the wrong address by accident but Leo still showed at the right one. Just before he died, he says "tell me why I didn't tell nobody".

That's my question. Why didn't he tell anyone? The next day, they show in the news that he was an FBI agent, but that was just a cover story to make Jack Nicholson think the rat was dead so he wouldn't have to look anymore, wasn't it?

That's partly because in the original version, Delahunt's counterpart was a good friend of Leo's counterpart. But in the case of The Departed, there was no character built up for Delahunt, so it's between him and Leo. Your question would probably have no real answer, only speculations.

My speculated answer is, Delahunt just wanted to know if his silence was worth his life. Sort of like, he's been living in crime all those years, and then here's come a situation when he gets to choose if a cop is to live or die. Sort of like his last chance to do something right. Maybe he just wanted Leo to tell him that he was doing the right thing.

In case you're not aware, the original is Internal Affairs, a HongKong movie starring Tony Leung and Andy Lau.

Personally, the HK movie was so much better and much well thought off. Still, I enjoyed The Departed, there are just a number of loopholes in it that sort of irks me but it is still a great film.

Oh okay. Thanks Nior. Hmm, surprising that they left such a big thing like this unexplained.
