Started my first pc assassin yesterday, going through bg2 and tob...need a little help from you thieving veterans out there..

Now: I've actually finished the last 3 battles with that "Doom awaits thee" chick using nothing but traps. Pure cheese, I know. By the time I finally get this assassin o' mine that far, I'd like to play it a little more tactically.

At the moment I still haven't acquired my stronghold, but already I'm thinking about bad guys like Demogorgon et al, who don't seem to be bothered by the fact that you're hiddin in shadows and wearing a cloak of non-detection. And since they just pop out at you before you can do anything in the room, no traps either.

I'd appreciate any tips people might have concerning boss battles with thieves, solo or otherwise, with the understanding that I already know everything there is to know about traps.

In such situations use Potion of Invisibility. That's a good way to get an extra, mayby lifesaving, quick backstab. I donät know if you can backstab the DemoGorgon, though; never tried that.

I like the assassination ability - ever attack that round is a full backstab - now combine that with poison weapon, hase, improved haste and a high attack weapon (Kundane or Belm) or - when you're a fighter-thief - with greater whirlwind attack.

Use the same tactics when using the poison weapon ability when backstabbing. When you want a repeated backstabbing attack, use the potions of invisibility. When you have the use any item ability you can also make good use from mislead scrolls ...

As an assassin, use your special poison weapon ability as often as possible: with the highest number of attacks possible the poison weapon ability is for every attack that round)! I recommend to use the Tuigan bow, light crossbow of speed or darts - use oil of speed or a haste spell or improved haste spell to get extra attacks.

Just so you know, assassins are awesome! Especially if your morals are low and make multi-class fighter/assassin with SK

Another note for the cheesy munchkin is that it is very possible to trap the Demogorgon. You see the schackles, you hear him talk to you. Before you ask himself to show, just lay down all your traps. Not very fun but very effective.

    Thanks for the tips..

I agree that the HLA assassination is an invaluable tool, but unlike fighters' greater whirlwind, or even 'spike trap,' you only get to select it once, ergo fairly useless if you can't rest between encounters.

I'd assumed any chat with DG ended in a none-too-friendly encounter. Interesting...
